Default Drive train slack/lash

As I was driving home in rush hour traffic last night and I noticed that my car has alot of slack in it. What I mean by slack, is every time i let off the gas or get on the gas the car tends to surge and shake a little. I've always noticed this in first gear, and just chalked it up to the ATS fd and the shortness of first gear. But lately, mostly last night, I noticed that I have it in all the gears and most notible in 3rd. Is this caused by something in the tranny, ie gear lash, or is it caused by the sprung clutch (springs getting weak)? Could it be the motor mounts going out also or is this a normal thing and I've just finaly noticed it?

I noticed it when the car was stock. After several thousand miles and some bouts with wheel hop, it became noticable. It did become somewhat reduced after installing two of the 3 motor mount inserts.

I'm wondering what is causing this myself. Mounts? Clutch disc springs? I'm sort of ruling out disc springs since the springs were fine/intact when I got the 4.785 FD installed.

My first guess would be motormounts.
Are they still stock? Maybe one or mor have finally succumbed.

Yeah they are stock with inserts. I'm thinking of picking up some jim fabs soon though, hopefully that'll fix the problem and solve this mystery.

I have the same issue. It seems to have become more pronounced as the miles rack up.

Check the rear tranny mount (on the firewall). I had the same issue and when I removed and replaced it with my Mugen mounts I found it had a crack in in nearly the full length of the mount. The rest showed normal wear (at ~60K) but the rear was definitely broken and in need of replacement.

I'm sure some of it is due to the sprung clutch - how old is yours?

it's not totally the mounts. i have hasport solid mounts for the rear tranny and both upper mounts... then the jimfab lower torque mounts too, although i am just runnning the tranny side at the moment, i still get that lash. i think it is the clutch as well, everyone praises the stock itr clutch so much but i think it is a weak link, it is too soft.

i was orginally thinking it was the lsd getting older, could that be part of the problem too?

Craig, I just put the 2 lower Jimfab mounts and 3 upper HAsport mounts in my EG hatch, and the motor does not move at all, very nice and tight, and not too rough at all. Try this first. Of course, just the rear and maybe the two lower torque mounts will probably do for your application.

And you can bring the hood to burn at Marc's next party, but I'll be bringing a lot of crap from my totalled GSR, they will no lack of crap to lite on FIRE

Later, Clay

What were the part numbers for the upper and rear mounts? I went to hasports web site, but they have about 10 different mounts listed for a 94-01 integra.

maybe I'm feeling a different thing, but I'm adding urethane replacements to my shock top mounts (ie almost a spherical pillowball feeling)

DCSTK is the part # for the set of 3 mounts...be warned, these are stiff and i just told you that they will not completley solve this drivetrain lash, i think it is something else causing it.

Thanks for the info, my motor still moves around more than I'd like.
Don't know if it's the Azenis or not, but after switching back to them from my ~2 year old A032R's I got a BUNCH of wheel hop in the wet the other day (which I hadn't seen since putting in the ES inserts).

I discussed this with Craig the other day. I have the exact same problems. Let me share what I found.

sorry about the pic size, I wanted to show the detail.

This is the rear mount (the important mount). I have not yet repaired/replaced it. I plan to mix a custom polyurethane caled Flexane where I can control the hardness (Want it solid but don't want vibration). The mount will be solid but should be much softer than most Poly stuff.

Nice I'm glad to see you tracked down what seems might be the problem. Mine is getting worse and worse, but I do have a hasport rear mount coming soon. I did end up going with the message chair hardness btw.
