Default Looking to Turbo

I've posted a few times over on honda-acura.net I figured I'd ask you guys as well. I might be able to get a turbo now, which my friends have been pushing me to get for a little while. My father has a guy who "owes him a favor" so I wanted to ask, if you guys were looking for a kit that would produce no more than 300whp, what would you be looking at, and what are all the precausions I should take in doing this to my R, i.e. - lower compression... I'm just saying no more than 300whp because the are, to me, is already pretty quick, and I want to keep it fairly driveable. Your input is as always greatly appreciated.
Mike

There is a turbo ITR here. From Va I believe. If I remember correctly he had a built bottom end(Endyn pistons, crower rods etc..)A drag kit and he was using Hondata for engine mgmt.I believe he was making like 300whp or a little more at only 8 psi.His dynos were posted not too long ago I think SGT posted them.I would say try a couple of searches and see what you can find.

My suggestion? Make your own (no offense Mirai). Most of the kits out there have things that I don't like about them. Of course doing everything right is expensive. My kits start at $7500+ but then again I don't cut corners.

If you dont want to buy new rods and pistons to lower compression, look into buying the Inlinepro head gasket it will lower your compression to about 9.2 to 1. Its what Im using on my turbo R. I only run like 5 psi and I would not recommend running any more then like 6 or 7 with that head gasket.

the interesting thing is that i boost to 7.8psi..and sometimes theres boost spike; where it gets to 10psi. Still no sign of detonation. What they say is true i guess; u have to tune ur car properly

If you don't mind could you send me details on the kits that you have. I of course want to do it right, and not cut corners. I have a clue as to what I need, but I'd really like to have someone who has done it before tell me the right path to take. And I'm talking about doing everything (not just the turbo kit) - the exhaust, all the proper guages and engine management... My email is mike@premierworks.com

ITR 481- I thought the purpose if the Inline pro Head gasket, was to run more boost on the stock motors, I would recomend the inline pro head gasket , watched a Type R with one run last year at the battle, was very impressive, If i were you Xerzex, i would contact them and ask questions.

I usually recommend the Blitz head gasket. It is metal, 3mm and not horribly expensive.

If you pay over $5K for a sub 300whp turbo kit, you just blew a crap load of money. Any of the "crappy" kits out now for under $3500 will make that kinda hp easy. just get the proper tunning tools and other "stuff" to make the kit right and there will be no need to remove the head or any of that other crap.

Stock compression is not the problem, poor tuning is.

You can run like 8psi on the Inlinepro head gasket but Im saying if you want to be safe like me I only run 5-6psi. You could go with the Blitz but I have seen them blow and Inlinepro has never had a gasket blow. The blitz however will lower your compression a little more then the Inline gasket b/c the blitz is 3mm, as to 2.7mm with the Inline. The inlinepro web site is http://www.inlinepro.com check it out.

Only time Blitz gasket blows is if you neglect to torque down properly or head and block are not perfectly straight and clean. Metal gaskets are more finnicky about clean surfaces than regular head gaskets.

I agree with you B18CXr, the more I think about it the more I don't want to do such a "small" increase. I think if I spent that much money I'd want to go with more hp. I'm gunna do a bit more research on different sized turbos, and the engine building necessary for them. What are some realistic hp ranges to get into while keeping the car very streetable? are looking at as high as 400whp? or even more? lemme know. thanks

For that kind of money, what exactly are you getting and how well will it perform over a Drag kit?

My set up:

'94 B18C1, ported & polished stock head. RC 310's, AEM fuel rail, AEM fpr, Vortech booost-dependent FMU, MSD 6AL, MSD coil, MSD wires, NGK V racing #8 plugs, Tial BOV, Greddy wastegate, Mitsubishi TD04, Spearco intercooler, '95 GSR ECU,
Drag3 piping, 3 inch exhaust from flex pipe to Greddy PE muff, Custom ECP Turbo manifold, @ 10 psi it makes roughly 280 whp with a safe rich tune. With much room for improvement, but I'm running stock pistons and rods so I dont want to go overboard and grenade my motor.
