Header skid plate
I am testing the response to selling a skid plate for a long tube header for the ek chassis. I have a comptech race header (b series) and I have hit it a couple of times (less than 10) and I have having to watch for every pothole and dip in the road. I am in the process of making it out of mild steel right now and after I get it where I want it, I will have it machined out of titanium. I am choosing titanium because of the strength and weight savings that you can get with titanium. I thought that this would be the best forum to post in. Just trying to see if anyone else would be interested in this. Fastlineperformance.com sells skid plates for the jdm 4-1 header, but it bolts onto the header, I am making mine to bolt onto the frame of the car and off the motor. Email me if you have any questions.

Its not going to affect the motor either way, it will be bolted to the radiator support in the front and attach to the k member after the oil pan. I am making it so that you will not have to remove it in order to change the oil. When I first put the race header on, I had to raise my car up 1.5" in order to give me a 2.25" clearance at the lowest part of the header. I am making the plate to protect my header more than anything else. At the back of the plate, there will be a rounded angle, as opposed to a welder straight plate, so when you are backing up, the plate doesn't get ripped off. I will post pics as soon as I am done.
don't know how this would be that great of help, you would be lowering the amount of clearance that you have, not only this but you are going to be changing the aerodynamics of the vehicle slightly... just some food for thought. Don't get me wrong, if you drive on the street it would be nice to have the "sport/racing" suspension all the time.. but you take your chances....

I agree, I want to see pictures before any decision is made. Only thing, I am running a HeaderTech Header in an EG. The skid plate you are trying to produce probably won't come anywhere close to fitting my car....Like I said, pictures first, decisions later. By the way, you are probably gonna get this thread deleted, because you can't really advertise in the All-Motor forum...the mods probably won't like this.

I wasn't advertising trying to sell the plate, i was trying to get feedback if other people have had the same problem with their cars. If/when I choose to sell it, i would advertise in the classified forum. I posted in all motor, because there is a greater chance that other users in this forum and running long tube headers to help out top end gains. My car is not really that low, before I raised the front end, i at least an inch gap between the bottom of my fender and the top of the wheel (215/40/16). I should have the prototype mounted by the end of the week, right now its only made out of 1/16" gauge steel (just for the prototype, not strong enough for the street) I am currently running koni yellows with ground control coilovers, i choose one setting for autocross and the street, i just adjust the struts when I race to a stiffer setting than what I use on the street. If I am happy with the results, I will look at making a plate that would fit the da and eg chassis.
hey Rhyno:
You have the right idea about building a skid plate that bolts to the chassis and not the header like the one's i've seen. At least this way your actually protecting the header. Good Idea. Post pics when your done.
using a skid plate that bolts to your header is a waste of time.
