4th GEN or 5thGEN
5th Gen...newer(reliability)...has VTEC....and is a little bigger.
4th Gen if you find a good one with VTEC if you are looking for a cool dash and performance. Most people LOVE my car. I like the 4th gens better than the 5th gen but that is just me.
Good luck.

mostly a preference issue.
4th gens slightly outperform b/c of lower weight, and slightly better gear ratios.
i personally don't like the way they look but that's just me. no 'ffense to you 4th genners out there.

None taken, but bad's right...If they took the headlights from the 4th and put them on the 5th and took the dash from the 4th and put them in the 5th I'd go with a fifth. Give me either one free and I'm not complaining

Personally if I were to buy a Prelude now, I would opt for a 5th gen because the 4th gens are getting up there in Mileage and age..Doesn't mean they are bad though..I love my 4th gen! I was a lucky one and found mine with 60k miles and prime

As much as I love the 4th gen, the numbers don't add up to me.
I don't see how a hundred pounds (actually less) and a 1% difference in gear ratios could result in the big 1/4 mile ET differences between 4th and 5th gens. This difference only gets bigger as mods come into play.
I am still looking for a 5th gen as a daily driver

I would say 5th gen and not because i own one. I wanted a 4th gen but i couldnt find any 4th gen vtecs and i wanted something faster than the SI. the 5th gens are easiler to find and are newer.

This is not in regards to just straight line performance.

that's true
when i did see the 5th on the track i noticed it three wheeled on some turns. like a good 6"inches. has anyone seen a 4th three wheel on a turn? that means the 5th is a lil' longer than wide like the 4th, anyone correct me if i am wrong.
man o man decisions decisions......

one thing to consider that the 5th gen competes against the prelude SI in SCCA's ITS, while the 4th gen VTEC is illegal for the series.
The 4th gen VTEC is classified, along with the Type R, in T2, which runs against cars like the mustang Cobra, Z28, E36...
oh well, take that for what its worth.

I would say if you want a "nicer car" for appearance and newer look go for a 5th gen.It will have an h22 also no matter what so mods will be easier to find. Now, not saying the 4th gen outperforms the 5th but if you are looking to build the car for performance instead of looks i give the 4th gen the nod.
I think a 94-95 vtec would be a perfect choice for many reasons, newer lower mileage,H22,better interior with armrest, cupholder and EL gauges.
My .02
