Actually Dave-ROR and RS (Adam) attend Chin Motorsports events quite frequently...maybe they'll see this topic and post their thoughs. I've heard nothing but good things about it though...
I've heard of Chinmotorsports sponsored events. A lot of S2000 guys go participate (check http://www.s2ki.com ). It's more of a instructional "race" that you're not suppose to race others and etc. If you have the $$$, then definitely go for it. BTW, the owner of Chinmotorsports has S/C NSX and S2000.

Adam you going to the Miami homestead event? come on get that R fixed and come on down
ITR-Animal: i'll sum up what I IM'd you with here just for the sake of others as well..
Chin runs his events open track, it's not session based, yet I've seen one incident in two years, and that was a NSX driver who went too hot into the "safety pin" at Sebring. The instructors are pretty good (from what I hear and see), people are courteous, you usually don't have ******** on the track, there have been a few times were ITA guys got a little crazy (Mike Dunn, who almost ran a friend off the track) but I've never seen him do that again, so I assume he was spoken to. The safety stewards are good and they'll blackflag you for doing anything stupid. Overall, a slightly strict event, but worth it for TONS of track time.
(edit: spelled miami wrong. lol)

how much does it cost to run? what type of safety measures are necessary (just helmet, or anything else?) I'm definitely interested and it's about an hour away from me...maybe we can make a day of it w/ a group.

Snell M or SA 90 or better helmet. And they inspect the vehicle of course. Cost is $225, there might be a $40 membership fee too, I forget. I would do the following:
1. Bleed brakes and use good fluid (Castrol LMA, ATE Super Blue, whatever ford calls their truck HD stuff now)
2. Run better pads, porterfield R4S, or even Hawk Blues. Adam can give you a good reason not to run R4's
3. Check all other fluids, do an oil change, etc.

Well,
I flew down for their Newyears eve track day at Sebring to go with a friend of mine. The Event was very well run and mostly all the drivers(one formula continental driver shouldn't have been in that car, nearly got my friend and I into an accident) were responsible and drove within their limits, That is really stressed(driving within your limits I mean.) Anyway it was my first ever event at Sebring and I drove another friends NSX for Eight laps--It was incredible!!! I loved it. Hooked me for life, now my bank account hates me, but my car is starting to love me
. Anyway, I would tell you to go, if you have the money. LOTS of seat time and some nice people.
If, any of you were there for that event, did you ever ind out what the wind chill factor is traveling at 160 MPH?? That was definatley a cold morning in Florida.

adam: be careful. Darren is getting **** for his car now. They described "speeds in excess of 100mph" as "excessive abuse" and "racing". They even mentioned that they could check in with any "officer of the law" who would decide that such speeds were, in fact, excressive and highly illegal. Of course, I would have laughed my *** off at the Zone Rep when he said that and had him call an officer at once. I really would like to know how 100mph is "excessive and highly illegal" on a closed track for a driving school.
sigh.
sigh.

I asked WeiShen how the track would be setup, here's his response.
"We use the front and back straight as well as the infield road course. We
do not use the banked corners. It's VERY fast as is since both turn 1 and
turn 9 where you head into the infield are effectively lift, slight turn,
and back on the power.
There is some elevation change as well as the "bowl" which is a very slow
infield corner with elevation change. It's a very nice layout with some
tricky corners. I think you'll like it!"

Dave,
Were you running your Type R?
I was there with Aaron Weiss and his silver 993, now gone and replaced by a Nice 87 911 track car. Who had the stripped PY type r? I wanted a ride real bad.
Hey, what was your cars number, I took a Load of photos.

Aaron! hehe cool. I actually have a White GS-R, the PY ITR is owned by Adam (RS on this board, posted in this thread). He's more than willing to take people I'm sure, just ask! He took me for a ride at the last autox, I never had such a fun spin (literally! hehe sorry Adam) before. Hell we could have thrown her into reverse and crossed the timing lights
I will say that Adam has never spun out on the track.. with me in the car
My car number was most likely 49, a white GS-R, pretty plain looking car. It would have had Anthracite K1's on it.
