junkyard turbo on d16y8
Hey guys and maybe a few girls, i was wondering how much it would be to build a junkyard turbo kit for my sohc ..and if you are really nice since i dont kno much about the f/i world you can list the parts ill need thanks alot
I spent 2000 on parts. THis includes all the turbo parts along with clutch/flywheel/ exhaust, EVERYTHING.
Also, do a search for the parts. You'll learn along the way. It's worked the best for me.

I spent about $1000 for a d16z6 w/ tranny and all the turbo parts.
-turbo is a T25 from a nissan. it's small and spools fast..like 8psi at 3k
it was about 180 from some kid that got it on e-bay
-manifold- VX manifold from an engine left over from someones swap i did.
-adapter plate to attach civic manifold to turbo flange. Got a scrap of 1/2" mild steel and made this and the discharge flange. lots of grinding and cutting (sawzall with metal cutting blades and cutting oil work great
) it was fun too.
-all the piping is 2" mandrel bends from turbo to IC and 2.25" from IC to throttle body. Down pipe is 2.5" mandrel U bend. I welded everything with a cheap oxy/acet torch. couplers are made from truck radiator hose from napa. $18 makes 3 straight and one 90 degree coupler. the pipes were about 70 from jegs
- the front mount IC is off a scab vigen. got the part # from here somewhere. It's like 27x7x2.2". 189 list price and my buddy got it for me for 118 shipped. Fits on my 93 hatch perfectly. Metal bumper is fully intact
-got a set of eclpise 450cc injectors and a 1st generation eclipse BOV for $60. Apexi vafc was like 350 i think. resistor box from prelude was $5
-oil feed kit was like $55 and I needed new crush washers and has to weld the fitting on the turbo end. return is just some 5/8" id steel tubes with a rubber oil hose between them.
-there are a few other little things and of course the motor for my setup. It all came out pretty cheap. I have 4100 into my car including the car. I woop on WRX STIs and porsches at the auto-X and pull on lots of 'sports cars' on the street and especialy in the corners. $1000 for turbo and d16 swap - $1700 for the DX hatch - $1200 for Tanabe sustec pro SS - +a couple hundred for some 15" rota slips w/ azenis. it's cheap and it's fast in more ways than one.
If you kinda know what you are making you can do it cheap and learn a lot more than just putting a pre-made kit together.
Go get the book 'maximum boost' by Corkey Bell. It will help you emensely and anwser your questions. Thats how i did it and am very happy with it...for now

dsm 450cc injectors
vortech BOV
spearco FMIC
apex-i VAFC
