Disappoinment strikes the night before an autocross
So a few weeks ago I snapped off a wheel stud when taking a wheel off. I got the stud and lug nut at Autozone and had started replacing the stud only to realize that I aparently had not grinded enough off the stud because the threads were fucked when I finished. I broke down and bought a stud from the Honda dealer to replace the one from Autozone and all went well after grinding the hub a bit. Go figure that another stud snapped when taking the wheel off a few days later. Damn. I again replace that one and all seems well.
It had been atleast a week since I had driven the car and was gettin antsy. Then the hurricane of the century sweeps through central Virginina keeping me from driving her for another week. Finally a few days ago I get to take her out. Damn it feels great. Don't get me wrong, I love my 1990 Wagon, but feel of the pull in VTEC never ceases to amaze me. I put about 100 miles on the car just out driving in the country, trying to get some miles on the new Azenis before the autocross this weekend; the first in a month and a half. Toward the end of my 100 mile drive the brakes begin to feel odd. On the first pump there would be more travel before they bite, then they'd be fine. I later noticed a light metalic sound apparently coming from the drivers side front brake. I also see a light scratching around the outside of that rotor. My pads are pretty thin on the front so I figure it has something to do with that.
I get home after working until 10:30 tonight and decide to put on my GT R Spec VR's, the only other pads I have. Everything goes well on the passenger side and I move onto the driver's side. While putting the wheel on I notice some play in the wheel. I then tighten the wheel down and the play remains. I take the rotor and caliper off and can wiggle the hub. Damn. Then the castle nut on the axel cathes my eye and something hits me. When my dad was over helping me determine the best way to change the studs, he had loosened the castlenut anticipating having to take the axle out to replace the studs.
It seems that I had been driving around with the castle nut slightly loose for that 100 miles. I tighten that bitch down to no avail. The play remains. So now it's 12:15 and I'll prob end up autocrossing my dad's 91 Rx-7 or my Wagon: Not the R. So do you guys think its the wheel bearing that needs to be replaced? Anyone experience this kind of play before? Thanks for listening, just needed to tell someone.

That blows.
If you can get switched to the third heat, you can drive the SE-R. We've shaved out probably 150lbs since the last auto-x, and relocated the battery.

check the tie rod that connects the knuckle to the steering rack... if you were driving with play in your wheel for 100 miles it is possible the tie rod balljoint was damaged.
