A b series with forged pistons and rods is loud as compared to a stock b series. is this because of the piston material? would a teflon coat on the piston skirts help to quiet the engine down?? thank you for all the replies!!!

Performance forged pistons run looser tolerances than stock pistons, which makes them louder at least until they warm up. Also built engines generally have no noise suppression designed into them like resonators and stuff. I doubt a teflon coating, or any coating that can take up the clearance under expansion and contraction, would last very long.

Well you can't really tighten it. Forged pistons tend to expand more than OEM pistons when they heat up so the manufacturers are required to make the tolerences a bit looser. The sound really isn't all that bad, you get used to it.

My **** does that too; runs strong though so I'm not too worried.

you are suppose to size the bore to fit the pistons to ensure the proper clearence.

if you run a higher lift/duration cam it will make more noise

Piston silicon content can also be a factor. See informatin here:

i also go my head reconditioned, new valve seals, valves cleaned and valve seats machined (reamed?) does this usually contribute to noise levels?

nope.

forged pistons are noisy due to the different wrist pin design.
