Default Replacing Ball Joints & Rubber Boots in Suspension.....where to buy???

Okay....I'm pullin the axles on my car the other day and I notice that both of my front ball joints, the upper ones on the control arms? have the boots cracked open, and I know one of the rear ones is likely worn also. I believe there's one or two lower ones also, that have the boot cracked, and they look exactly like the top ones....and the rubber boot that goes on the steering arm, where it goes from the hub to the steering box is torn....

SO! Here's my Q's:

- Where can I buy replacement ball joints and the steering boot cover, other than Honda?
- How do I replace those ball joints? It doesn't look too easy to me...

AFAIK they upper ones can't be replaced. You can get boot repair kits IIRC but the balljoint its self is pressed into the control arm with a rediculous amount of force. You'll have to get new control arms (Someone please correct me if I'm wrong).

yea... i think you'd have to buy the whole upper control (comes with ball joint) from Honda unless you find aftermarket ones...

then you'd need a machine to press out the b-j and press the new one back on

I had mine replaced with a camber kit (it's a rare camber kit that goes on the b-j part)

see pic on next post

Like what this guy said MileHigh
.
You could just get a CamberKit.
-The camber kit that goes on the Ball Joint.

I coulda swore I remembered sayin someone say they replaced them before and they only cost a few bucks each....

...then again, I have a set of camber kits for the rear i haven't installed yet, I might as well go ahead and get some for the front.

Actually you can replace the upper ball joints-but will need to take the control arms off to have the old ones pressed out. You can use an SPC #67135 sliding balljoint kit to replace with. This also gets you adjustability of you drop the car up to 1.5". I am assuming a 5th gen-others will be similar. The boots are best bought from your Honda dealer, IMO. BTW: This is a project best completed on an alignment rack as you will need to have it aligned anyway. If you want good pricing on the kits-contact Ultra Performance in Tucson.

wow i have replaced many ball joints and you DO NOT have to buy the whole control arm, but you need some special tools. A special snap ring plyers to get the boot off, a GOOD ball joint press set and a little common sense. The ball joints can be anywhere from 20-50 dollars per joint

40 bucks at your local "advance auto parts" or "auto zone" or some store like that. You DO NOT have to buy the whole control arm. Just look for one of these stores in your area and give them a call.
