**Need advice on performance brake pads**
I am looking for front and rear brake pads for my G2 GSR.
Which pads heat up the quickest? Are there any drawbacks about these pads aside from more brake dust? Do they squeal?
I am looking for a street pad not racing pad. I am considering Porterfields and Hawk HPS. Hawk does not make rear pads in Hawk HPS and HP Plus for G2 & G3 GSRs.
Do you guys know of a place that sells pads at a low price? I would really appreciate your knowledgeable advice.

The Tire Rack has recently added brake pads. They carry Hawk HP+ and HPS, and some EBC pads.
Strangely they list HP+ and HPS rear pads for the G3 integra (dunno about G2, sorry). I thought those either didn't exist or were special order items. Anybody know about these?

Avoid EBC pads.
Get Hawk HP+ or Porterfield R4-S. I have had good luck with pads from a company called KVR. I use them for street/autocross.

Dunno about on the Teg, but here is what I've discovered:
Hawks (all of them) dust a lot. Blues suck goat ***** on the street (which is not a surprise given their stated temperature range). HPS are good on the street. None of them squeak. But, neither come with back plates or any of that crap, so they do rattle/click a bit in the rear (on my RX-7).
I use Performance Friction 83 compounds (I think that was the compound) in my tow vehicle. It's a low temp race pad. Squeaks a TON. But stops the car very well, way better than the stock pads (which are still pretty good). Never used PF's street compounds, probably don't squeak as much.

I have the Hawk HP+ on my Integra.
Cons-
Dust a LOT
squeaky below 20mph
stock-like braking when totally cold, takes 1-2 stops to get temperature
harder on rotors than some other pads
Pros-
don't glaze
awesome stopping power for autox/street when warm
My HP+ had anti-squeal shims, and still made noise. I didn't put any anti-squeal compound on the back of the shims, since a mechanic told me that the compound can decrease brake feel on track. Then, the glue that holds the shims to the pad died, and the shims basically fell off when I removed the pads to swap to track pads. Basically, they make a whole lot of racket now but... they STOP.

I have the HP+ just on the front. I have my old EBC Greens on the back since the rear brakes don't do a whole lot of work compared to the fronts. I recall hearing that HPS or AEM in the back was a good compliment to the HP+ in front.
Next time I get street pads I'm getting another set of Porterfield R4-Ss. They last forever (2+ years including countless autocrosses and a track event at Robeling). They don't dust very much, and they feel great. Rotor friendly too - not much to dislike, except the price.
The reason I ditched the KVRs was lack of knowledge. That was early-ish in my driving and I was hoping for a pad that could "do it all." R4-Ss can on a light-braking track (like Roebling Road) but nowhere else. I'd buy some KVRs next time, but I've decided that once I find something I really like, to stick with it.

I can't decide between the Porterfield R4-Ss and Hawk HPS.
Why do the Hawks squeak for some people? Does it still squeak with anti squeak compound applied to the backing plates and shims?

One more thing.....don't get too caught up in the whole noise (squeal) thing. Both the R-4S and the HP-Plus pads make very little noise, but they do let you know they're there. If you really want a good pad, there is some give-and-take involved.

Don't compare the "HPS" pad to the R-4S. The R-4S pad will slaughter the HPS pad anyday of the week. The HP-"Plus" pad is a equal comparison to the R-4S. I've used both and decided that the Hawk HP-Plus pad is the best all around street/autocross pad going. You won't make a bad choice either way though. I order the Hawk's from http://www.nipponpower.com

As John said, the noise isn't bad but they dust BAD. My front wheels are black after about 5 or 6 days of driving. It doesn't bother me too much though.
I highly recommend them.
Sorry but I hate that sqeaking noise that brakes make. Do HP+ pads make that sqeaking noise? How do the HP+ perform when cold? Are they worst than stock when cold?

I can put together a group purchase for Hawk and Carbotech Brakes. Give orders for 10 axle sets and I can get you them for 10 to 15% off list PLUS shipping and taxes if in Virginia.
I am ordering for myself now and can add to my order.
If there is any interest , e-mail me me at jrpoliti@erols.com

I am running the Performance Firction street pads (get em at Auto Zone) and Ate Super blue fluid and couldent be (much) happier on the street. Dust-YES! Noise- Hell NO, havent heard a signle peep out of them. Wonderfull for AutoX! I do notice better braking after they have had a decent warmup,, 2-3 pretty hard stops. Recommended if looking for soemthing other than the normal HP+, HPS upgrade. Either will be incredible over stock! Will be using this setup when I got to my school at Roebling Road in Sept. Hope they hold up to the track, heard it was quite easy on brakes.
