keep the wheels on, remove the center caps, get the right sized socket, bend out that little flange so it can turn, then stick a breakerbar + 4' metal pole on it and jump on it, it should break right free....

Drills aren't going to get it. It's torqued to like 135ft/lbs, so you're going to either need a long a$$ breaker bar as described above or an air-gun. I can't remember if I used the air gun or breaker bar for the axle nut. I know it's a 32mm nut though. I know with the crank pulley we had to turn the pressure up really high on for the air gun to get it loose.

Good luck!

I broke two breaker bars. Then I bought a 1/2" impact wrench that has 625 lb ft of torque and it came right off.

i hope those breaker bars were craftsman so you can get a new one!

what i did was of course was chisel out the tabs. Then took a nice long pry bar that twines into the wheel studs (lugs on). With the ground in the way, this keeps the hub from turning. Then a nice breaker bar and a good 4 foot pole going around it. Took some cursing and it came off.

I also sprayed PB Blaster on the nut the night before. If all teh above doesn't help. Try a torch and heat gun as well to loosen it up a tad.

I had one that was rusted so bad on an old 88 STD hatch I had. What I did was use a Dremel to cut through the nut until I could pry it in half. I never damaged the threads on the end of the axle but I was removing it to replace it anyway.

i have been there. on my passanger side i had to take a chisel and about 3 hours to chisel through the threads. i was taking my time so i wouldnt have to repalce the axle. turns out the axle was shot so i was hella mad at that point. but what i did to get mine off is go to lowes and but a piece of 4ft long in ground gas pipe. its high pressure so it will not break and it is the perfect size to fit on a craftsman breaker bar. i bent a piece of 4 foot fence post trying to get mine off.

I found that any method used is much easier when someone is holding the brakes.

have someone hold hte brakes.. if you dont have anyone.. put a flat head inbetween caliper and rotor

get a good breaker bar....
a good cheater bar (pole like 6' long and go over breaker bar)
make sure the nut has no indents..

and you should have no problems

its very rare that you will be able to get an axle nut off without air tools, they are definitely the one of the hardest bolts to get off on a civic...

BTW: Stop saying "my boy" it makes you sound like a dumb ******* stunna

hmm... ive taken both my axle nut and crank pulley bolt (2nd hardest bolt to get off) with a 1/2" driver (36" pipe for the axles, 24" for the crank pulley). theyre not THAT hard. or maybe im just buff.

A big breaker bar puts lots of TQ very slowly to the nut which is what breaks things. A impact will actually jar the nut loose without doing much damage and with alot less effort. I have a good electric impact that takes a few seconds but they come right off. No need for someone to hold the brakes or stand on a 6ft bar next to my fender. Many rental places will rent one by the hour and is well worth the money.

yeah the impact wrench is the way to go imo. second choice would be the breaker bar route.

i have a shitty experience with some axel nuts. well, it was more less "one with the axle" it took us 3 days to get it off. we had to chisel the axel. it was quite akward to put a grinder in there. so it was allllll hand power. it's not cause im an idiot either. everyone i talked to told me to do that. hahaha. worst experience ever
