Chicago Area Honda Acura Performance Shops????
I just moved to the Chicago area and it doesn't seem like the Import Scene is as popular out here as it is in So Cal, where I moved from. Does anyone know any good performance shops to go to for Honda / Acura??? PLS HELP Thanks
Garage Kwai is good. One Six is also good.
Both are in ARLINGTON Heights on Auther Avenue and about 50 feet away from each other.
Garage Kwai's phone# is 847-259-6960
553 S. Aurther Ave.
Arlington Heights IL, 60005

I have heard only bad storied from garage kwai. What part of Illinois are you from ? I work on cars, mostly Honda's and Acura's so if you ever need a part or any work done. Contact me, I can save you a lot of money. I can give you the cheapest prices around here.
its somewhat out side of chicago but check out JDM SPEC PERFORMANCE and WHIP FACTORY. very cool peeps. i drove for 3 hours to drop by this pass weekend.
yep check out One 6 motorsport on Arthur Ave. in Arlington Heights our prelude club buys from Mark(owner) he grt prices, relaxed atmosphere.

i haven't really had any luck in chicago. we are the abstard child of the american market. i do all the work on my car (other than tranny work) myself now after having been fed up with what is available. i just use basic handtools and only recently got a HF jack. was using a POS MVP prolift for the longest. did my own as well as some other JRSC installs, big brake upgrades, suspension stuff, ecu and electronic stuff etc. diy is my advice. saves money and if you are patient, you KNOW the job was done right!

also if its minor stuff then i guess KWAI is ok, but i would never trust them w/ my motor ever again

I have actually talked to people that had to deal with them, so there not just stories.

Me and all my friends go there. Two of my friends have swaps done from them including me. They are the only place I trust to do major work on a car.
My friend had a H22A put in place of his H23.
Another friend has a B16A in his CRX and Kwai is replacing the dud motor.
I have a B16A LSD with the suspension swap.

What have you had go wrong from them?
I've been going to Kwai for almost 4yrs now. He's one of the few people I trust with my cars. I have never had a bad experience with them. I would recommend them to pretty much anyone. They didn't do little bolt-on work on my cars either, it was things like turbo work, trans work, and an engine swap. They have done a bunch of my friends swaps too. PM me if you have any questions about the shop.
Sorry to say, i know a couple who had some bad work done at kwai. If you need help with anything just ask around there are alot of good tuners around here to bad they dont own shops. If you need work done i would check out Dave at the WhipFactory, if you need parts you can call me up.

everybody is gonna have different opinions about the car shops.
people hear a story about a bad "swap"or installation and blow it way out of proportion
-on the other hand I believe that every single car shop can screw anybody over and every car shop has probably done that.
DIY is probably the best route if you have space-tools-knowledege-maybe some buddies
but anywayz
kwai and 0ne6 are good
apg, evolution are good also
drivers image is kinda like body werks-- which isnt good
they'll do lackluster jobs etc. I beleive they do work more for the sake of doing work-

i thought benson was a cool guy, i bought my springs from him gave me a deal when they frist came out even gave me shipping and tax for free, gave them my parents addy out of state. they had a mix up with shipping called and called finally found what happend someone had misplaced it said it would be another week, benson called back in like 20 mins saying he heard what had happend and had them sent out next day, and i recieved. the thing about a shop is that not everyone is perfect its what they do to correct any of there mistakes, also when you do two to five swaps a week sometimes things go wrong and trying to keep the customer happy and get it done fast and move onto the next things get mixed up esp if there tech is new at swaps or isnt familar, idk id say talk to them and see how you feel about them, shop around even look into doing the work yourself, i do and im glad, ppl make mistakes and id rather it be me. I personally like kwai but id much rather do my own swap, look at it this way if u have a problem u have over a 1000 members that would be more than glad to help you out if you do it yourself and will save you tons of money. good luck if you decide on having anyone do your work for you.
