More TLC and an Upgrade for #547
The day started with me in the garage swapping rear brake pads. About a week ago I swapped the front out for Axxis Ultimates and I did not get around to do the rears until today. Everything went smoothly and then before I put the wheels back on I remembered that I had ordered high temp paint from Eastwood. This winter I purchased high temp exhaust manifold paint for the rotors to cover and prevent rust. It was down in the basement collecting dust so I put it to use.
It’s really an easy job and quite enjoyable since you see the results right away.
The first step is to strip the rust using this…

And then you can apply the paint…

Here’s a before shot of the rear rotor/caliper – not flattering...

The after shot – no more rust!

Waxed perfection

Ahhh, but the day’s not over yet. It gets better. My JDM SRS steering wheel arrived at the doorstep just a few minutes after I was done with the brakes!
Did you know you can pay $1,503.00 through Inlinefour.com for this wheel? Haha – has anyone ever paid that price?

But I decided to pass up that steal of a price and got mine slightly used through eBay for $328.
Here’s the steering wheel that should only belong in a LS Integra driven by a 75 year old woman.

And the final shot of the day goes to JDM goodness.

This thing feels even better than it looks! The diameter is about one inch smaller than the stock wheel. I really like the Integra’s interior and this wheel really completes the package. A few months ago I was looking into purchasing a non-airbag Momo corse wheel. But after considering all the issues with safety and insurance I decided this was a smart choice.
Hope you guys were entertained!

NICE JOB...I have been wanting to do this also with the same color paint. So it wil match my spoon rotors up front. I too hate the rusty rear rotor. How did ou mask off the rotor? Did you mask off the part where the pads contact the rotor or did you just let the brake pad take the paint there off? Thanks.
I don't think he masked of anything b/c by the looks of it, I think he brushed it on, since the paint was in a can type of material..
john... you aren't be observative enough..
on the clean job you did

I did not mask off the rotor. This high temp paint kit comes with several foam brushes. My method was to hold the foam brush stationary while I spun the rotor - similar to a clay potting wheel.
This gave very good results without masking the rotor. You can't tell by the picture but the overlap is only a few MM onto the rotor face. The other junk you see is not paint but just oxidization from that rust remover. The brake pad will have no problem removing a little paint.

Yeah, this is a good method. I did not remove ALL the rust but I think this paint will still hold strong for the life of the rotors. The BEST idea is to do this procedure before you install new brake rotors. No rust from the get go...
