Default Preference on tranny fluid?

Anybody have any preference on tranny fluid i.e, redline, mobil 1, honda oem? My wife went to autorice and they gave here motor oil and said that's what the computer said to use? I've used mobil 1 and my 88 si tranny is crap after about 2k. Any suggestion, I'm up for any.

Mobil 1 synthetic is bad for honda trannys. I was told by my mechanic and the dealership to use either valvoline 10w-30 motor oil or honda mtf. Honda MTF got rid of my friends 3rd gear grind. I have also heard that GM Syncromesh is good but I never used it myself.

hope this helps

I second that. I use the GM Synchromesh part#12345349 in my JDM YS1 w/ LSD and it works wonders. Fixed my LSD chatter and my 3rd and 5th gear grinds. I tried everything in it from 80w-90 gear oil, to Honda MTF to regular 10w-30 motor oil. Nothing comes close to the GM Synchromesh. Period.

I have redline in mine with no problems, but my tranny didnt grind in the first place... My buddy Chris (incubus) also used redline in his B16 tranny and it helped a little bit but it still grinds from time to time as far as i know...

I always use Honda MTF... but if my tranny started to grind at all that stuff would be out of there and I'd fill back up with GM Syncromesh.

I've taken a number for trannies apart. Stick with OEM honda MTF.

GM dealer, cost me around $11 a quart. buy three, your trans will take 2.5 quarts. It works, don't understand it but almost eliminated my 3rd gear grind (still have it if I drive really hard).

So have I....what does you taking trannies apart have to do with Synchromesh? I always was like"Honda MTF nothing else" until this stuff STOPPED my grind, and it shifts incredibly smooth.

it was only recommened in the manuals because honda didn't have there own brand when the ef's came out. there have been great advances in technology since 88-91

Actually the EF's manual says 10w30/5w30 . BTW that fluid has been around for a good 10+ years.
