this weeks daydream: 2004 Yamaha FJR1300 edit - make that REALITY
man o man. i flip flop around each week to lusting after a new bike.
yamaha is selling these at a relatively limited pace, so theres always just a small number for sale in the US at any given time. basically if you walk into the average shop, its not likely they'll have one on the floor waiting for you.
this thing takes square aim at the sport touring market from BMW to honda (st1300) and is the lightest, sportiest of the bunch - and fastest.
i am really dreaming of some serious cross country motorcycle trips, and call me a wussy but my current bike leaves me numb from vibration after a 20 min ride. i already let up on my grip on the bars. feet tingle then sign off too. its a $5000 bike with a design from the 80's. its a great bike but its not a bike thats comfortable on the highway for very long.
so...this plush superslab eater looks sweet. and the hard bags will swallow a helmet and probably my joe rocket jacket too. with that big of an engine (think detuned hayabusa, just give it gas in any gear at any rpm and you're gone) and a light aluminum frame, my friends dad says he embarrasses 600s in the curves and of course all over the straights.
04 gets abs option (nah), taller windscreen, stiffer suspension and flush mount turn signals. funny cause these items are exactly what everyone was bitching about on the discussion board for the 03 bike.
yamaha wised up and got on the internet and did their homework it seems. very smart.
i lusted after the rune for about a week also...
the scary thing is i only have 3 car payments left, then i'll have the ability to afford one of these daydreams...uh oh...

great 1st bike. just not a highway bike since its buzzy. i love it. had her 2 years. but my needs aren't being met. it might be time to move on. its such a sweet bike for tooling around town though. it will be tough to let go...

Sorry for the thread jack but, I'm thinking of getting a 96 yzf600, is that an alright highway bike? I have to do alot of 100 mile rides on the highway this coming year for school.

i dont know how tall /big you are but thats probly a good choice for a 600 thats going to see a lot of commuting - for an averaged sized rider...i am not though. i think its a 6speed too and its supposedly pretty smooth.

the 600r will be one of the better sportbikes for that 100 mile commute. Just be sure to get tires to match. It really sucks squaring off aggressive compound tires with commuting and trying to make up for it on the one exit ramp
why wouldn't you want ABS? I've seen some demonstrations of ABS equipped bikes vs. non-ABS equipped bikes on water and slick surfaces and the ABS was amazing.
*shrug* cost and i am still a relatively new rider who only rides when the sun is shining. i know that gravel and oil are there regardless if its raining or not....i dunno. i gues i would consider an abs model if thats all i could get. i am a big fan of controlled braking using both front and rear brakes at all times. so i'd like to think i dont really need additional braking assistance. i know abs helps with skidding...its just a control thing for me at this point. i'd like to see some demos of it in action on a bike definitely.
At this pace, I don't think you'll ever buy a bike. When you're about to close a deal, you'll find another bike that steals your heart...for at least a week. =D So fickle!
Definitely a sharp looking bike, though. Especially compared to a less-sporty tourer (such as a Goldwing). Not my cup of tea.
Can you get Heli bars for your ZR7S? And do they sell bar-end weights to help reduce vibration?

nah, my whole attitude changes when i am actually in a position to buy, this is more of daydreaming to keep me entertained while i am financially deadlocked...

yes you can, and get products like a bar snake which add mass to the whole bar to damp vibration. truth is i am yearning for a liquid cooled fuel injected smooth ride (engine counterbalancers) that i can toss a girl on the back of and disappear for a few days at a time. i know this is old man's style motorcycle and i am only 25 but its what i am interested in right now. *shrug*

Daydream away! No harm in that. =D Personally, I picture myself with a garage stuffed with RC30s, RC45s, NSRs, VFRs, CBRs, and maybe a Honda lawnmower or two.

Nah, think of it more as the bike for the rider who realizes that only a small percentage of his time is spent on twisty canyon roads. It's the perfect bike for getting to where you want to be comfortably, but still has enough hidden up its sleeves for a little corner carving.

yeah thats the nail getting hit on the head right there. thats pretty much it. majority of my miles in the last year have been commuting. just too much going on to go ride an hour+ to the twisties out near the TX/OK border just to scratch it up for a while then head back to civilization and blow 3/4 a day. its a great time when i can catch up with the group that heads out there, but its tough with my schedule. there isn't much in the way of fun roads locally. i still love riding just for the sake of riding (probably moreso than a lot of the people on here, who have to drag a knee every time out) and would ride every day if i could carry more stuff and the weather was more stable.
i think a bike like this would get me out there a lot more often. thats what its all about.

yeah something like 145 at the crank. but only at 8000RPM! which is pretty amazing considering it doesnt rev to 10,000+ to make that power.
