Cleaning Plastic Headlights
Does anyone know the best way to remove light scratches on plastic headlights? I cant use a 'cleaner' polish as this will score the plastic and make things worse...............HELP!

Re: Cleaning Plastic Headlights (rabvtec)
I use meguires paint cleaner on mine and rub it in reallly good with a soft rag. It looks good for a few days but it always goes back to being dull.

I use Eagle One Never Dull to clean really hazy headlights. For less abrasive cleaning I use Plexus plastic polish.

Thanks...........but you're right about yours going dull again - its cos it will be covered in tiny tiny scratches.
I'm looking for a good brand name plastic polish that will remove these scratches.

Re: Cleaning Plastic Headlights (Arsenal)
i think meguier's plastic polish number 17 removes little tiny scratches. I've tried looking for it at auto supply places and they don't have it... they only have number 18 which is just a detailer. On the back of the 18 bottle it says something to the effect of "use number 17 to remove scratches from 1000 grit sand paper, you dick!"

I used this stuff called Blue Magic Plexi glass polish( I think thats what it's called)....It "looked" cleaner, but there was still a lot of surface scratches/debris.
I think I'll try a 3M plastic polish next.

Re: (SilverB18C1)
it depends on how bad the scratches are, and if there is any hazing. on my aunt's civic, I used rubbing compound, blue magic plastic polish, and then blue magic metal polish. a little searching wouldn't hurt either.

recently I discovered the miracle of wetsanding. I started off w/ some 800 grit, moved up to 1000 grit, and then finally 2000 grit. The plastic was all cloudy, so then I used some rubbing compound on it. After the rubbing compound, I used Meguiar's Scratch-X, and my headlights looked great:

it's abrasive... so it takes of a little bit of plastic. say you have a scratch in the plastic, like:
-------_--------
it'll bring the sides of the scratch down like this:
____________
get me?

Hey Bunmango. Jesus, wot was your aunt using to clean her lights - a pan scrubber haha But by the looks of the images, you're now her best nephew EVER! I think you were brave to use (wot I call) wet'n'dry paper - especially starting with 800grit! But excellent results.
Mine have light haze also, so I'm gonna maybe start with a rubbing compound and see if that works. If not, I'll step down a gear i.e. try 2000grit b4 I work my way up to meguiars.
A BIG THANK YOU FOR TAKING YOUR TIME TO REPLY GUYS!

she uses the free automatic carwash at gas stations after a few fillups
that's the way to think- start w/ the least abrasive material that you can find, and then work up if you aren't happy with the results.
