Upon searching and reading posts about brake fluid, it seems that people preferr motul brake fluid here. Therefore i called a local motorcycle shop and inquired about the product. They told me they can get a fluid call Motul Racing Brake Fluid 600.....is this the same as Motul RBF 600? I am asking cause this product needs to be ordered and i don't want to order the wrong part. He informs me that the product comes in 1/2 liter bottles....how many of these would i need for the complete flush. Also, would i have to clean out my system COMPLETELY before adding the new fluid? Thanks.

Two bottles.

That's what a flush is. You drain out all the old stuff as you're filling with the new stuff.

RBF 600 is the stuff to get....lots of technical mumbo jumbo you can get from Motul, but bottom line is that it's the next gen Motul 600 fluid.

Mo' better fluid: slightly higher boiling point, and less hydroscopic.

I'm running it now...

And you really wanna get all that old stuff outta your system before putting the new good stuff in. Should take no more than 2l to do it as mentioned above.

Check your math. It should take no more than two bottles, each one half liter, for a total of one liter.

Same as any other conventional fluid... which means as follows. If you're just driving like a granny on the streets, you can change it every two years or 30K miles like it tells you on the maintenance schedule. Of course, that description doesn't apply to any of us, right? I would recommend changing it at least once a year if you don't do any track events. If you take your car to the track, your fluid should have been flushed within the previous six months.

I live up north, where the track season is about seven months long, so I change my fluid every spring. If I lived in an area where I were going to the track year round, I would change it twice a year.

It's also a good idea to change it any time you manage to boil it.

Thank everyone! I just ordered some Motul RBF 600. Should be getting them on Tues. But surprisingly, it only cost $10.95CDN a bottel which converts into roughly $7.50USD. Not bad eh?? Anyways, thanks for all the advice!

Does anyone have any special techniques for purging the old (stock) fluid out of the system when switching over? Or do you simply pump the new stuff through?

The old fluid is purged out by the new fluid as you add it to the master cylinder and gently pump your brake pedal with your bleeder screw open. Do not pump out your fluid and leave air in the lines or you will be using a lot more than 1 Litre to get all the air out. Do not press your brake pedal to the floor or you will damage the seal on the master cylinder piston and the whole master cylinder may have to be replaced as they do not sell rebuild kits for our master cylinders. If you use the stock bleeders it will take two people to bleed your brakes. If you use speed bleeders or these other one way valves that are attached to a clear bleeder hose you can do it yourself but make sure you keep your master cylinder topped up with fluid so you don't suck in any air.
Yes, Motul 600 RBF is very good fluid and you also got a very good price on it.

i always thought when changing fluids to completely drain it out and then add.. i didnt know you could add brake fluid to old brake fluid..

On a similar note, my brake fluid is black.. i know its reached its boiling point and my brake pedal already seems mushy and sparatically (SP?) allows press to the firewall.. when i change the fluid to this motul RBF 600 should i drain completely or should i just pour and add to the old while bleading as victor suggested.. TIA
