Default Intake manifold differences? WTF? Pics inside of my mystery.

I have two intake manifolds, and as you can see by the pics, one is missing a sensor on the back of it. It's also missing a vacuum plug for the sensor, the bolt holes for it, and there's also another vacuum plug it's missing for the map sensor. This is suppossed to be from an 89 si, same as my car, but my manifold has that sensor on it. Is this a different year? Model? The intake manifold with the sensor is really corroded so I'd rather use the other...but I don't want it throwing a code because of a sensor unplugged. Any clue wtf is going on here? I'm stumped.

My guess - the on without the vacuum tube and sensor is from an automatic.

That's a very good posibility! Never thought of that. Automatics don't use map sensors? Also, what sensor is that on the bottom left of the mani?

ooohoooh i know pick me!the sensor thats missing is the fast idle control solinoid.it controls idle at start when engine is cold.the reason why its not there is cause the manifold is off an 88 si.the 88 fast idle contol solinoid is on the fire wall kinda lke the hfs.you dont really need that sensor i didnt hook mine up when i my swap.the motor idles high til its warm then it fixes itself

He's right. The one on the right has the fast idle solenoid attached, whereas the left manifold doesn't have it. Either way, you don't need it. Honda did away with the idea later on...

Sweet, it'll be much cleaner. Yea, my 89 si has that. So if I just leave the sensor electrical plug unplugged it wont throw any codes?

The manifold on the left is an 88 Si manifold. The one on the right is a 89-91 Si.
Whichever wiring harness you have, it will have to be an 88 or an 89-91. I know, the stuff is wierd because the 88 bastard year is missing a plug on the harness, you should be fine either way.

Does anyone find it odd that even though it doesn't have those sensors it still has basically the same shape it would if it had them. Almost like they anticipated having it, but never did, how weird.

do you supose that JDM ones came with it? just like the 90 SiR motor i bought (B16A), which was off of an automatic. it had the kickdown cable bracket bolted into a spot that was on the USDM B16A2 and 3 IMs, but, of course, there was nothing tapped at these places. just my feeble attempt at a guess......

Is there a plug that connects to it? I took off the rubber boot and it looks like a fitting with frieken glue all over it. I tugged on the bitch but I dont want to rip anything apart. How the hell can I disconnect it to make sure my car doesn't freak out?

Maybe when they machine these engine parts perhaps they make like one basic manifold, then have it modified for different engines or countries specs or what not.

It's weird how the blank spots are on 88's, so they obviously had it planned out. Then for some reason decided to include them in the later years.
