Clutch Install Questions
I will be putting in a new clutch soon and I was wondering if there are any bearings/seals I should replace while I'm in there, don't really mind any extra work it takes to get to them. I have a Helms, clutch disk, pressure plate, release bearing, and flywheel bearing, and hopefully a new light weight flywheel. I want to do it right the first time so I don't have to go back in there. Also, is there any thing I should look out for? One last thing-how much does the transmission weigh? (in other words, will I need the transmission jack that the Helms calls for) Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance
some high temp urea grease from your local honda dealer would be good. 2 or 3 quarts tranny fluid from the dealer too, along with a cheap screw on valvoline pump from kragen or your local autoparts store to get the fluid into the tranny. If you can also get a new set of washers for the tranny drain plug and fill plug, they are similar to the oil drain plug one, just different sizes.
Tranny jack, if you can rent one it helps a lot, i've done it with and without, and it is just a whole lot easier with, otherwise, you'll need a big jack or another set of hands since the tranny is heavy, probably about80-100 pounds
Also, go borrow a ball joint separator.

yeah the tranny is a lot heavier ... especialyl when you are putting it back in and tired from all of the work getting it out... 80 lbs min... tranny jack is the best bet.. I didnt have one and it could have been nasty if I did funk some part up or crush my hands or whatever.
perfect time for a LSD..... ITR LSD can be had for $500 or less.. look around.
oh yeah be careful punding the axles out of the tranny/half shaft. I used two hammers... a rubber handled hammers rubber end on the axle rubber boot and then hit that hammers hammer end with the other hammer... easy to pound and the rubber on rubber prevents the cv boots rubber from tearing at the axle joints where your poundin.. also turnn them a 1/4 turn if they arent loosening at all, it may help.
Sounds like your good to go! get that lightweight flywheel, I wish I had! doh
good luck!
IM me if you have any problems...
