90' CRX Si ITA spring rate questions
I am planning on getting some ground control coil over sleeves for my CRX and I was wondering what rates you road racers run with. I was thinking maybe 400 front and 600 back. I put in a Suspension Techniques rear bar and with the stock suspension my car is all out of whack (found this out after spinning it out and fighting oversteer all day at the San Diego SoloII event last Sat)
Thanks for your help.

Dunno about a CRX, but I run a Type R with 400/600. Still not enough rotation on dry pavement for my taste. Gonna have to get a bigger bar.
One of our local ITA guys, currently second in points, runs with 450/650. That's still pretty soft as far as spring rates go.

(you guys running amazingly high spring rates stop me if I'm lying...)
Steve, make sure you have enouch shock to handle such high rates. I would imagine that a 600lb spring would be too much for an off-the-shelf Koni (for example).
FWIW I run 375/425 in the GS-R. I think o-man runs 350/500, and the "soft" springs don't seem to be slowing him down...

krshultz is correct - off-the-shelf shocks generally cannot handle the spring rates you will eventually want to use.
As a point of reference, most of the SV-WC and Grand Am Cup Cars run in excess of 1000lb rear springs. Way too much for a CRX driven by a club racer, but you get the point.

Yeah, I wouldn't try 400/600 with off the shelf Konis, even though I was told it would work as long as I kept the rebound cranked. I do know that there are people running 400/600 on off the shelf Bilsteins with suprisingly good results. Someone else can jump in, re: Bilsteins.

I've got a 90 CRX Si that several people on this list have seen. I run 375/500 springs with Koni sport shocks, energy sus bushing set and a progress rear bar. Scary on cold tires, but rather neutral once warmed up.

after few long emails with Gordon something from Koni USA
he told me that we shoudl be able to run 600-700 spring rates with the sports konis..
but they'll need to be adjusted at almost MAX dampning level..
and he told me that they won't last long ( like 2 summers or less.. ) depending on the weight of ur car and the frequency of use
i was questionning him about diff spring/coilovers setup in conjunction with konis and reworked spring seats for 2.5id springs directly onto the shocks..
neway..he sais that there'not supposed to be any problems with less than 500 lbs..
without getting them revalved..
but neway..u jsut buy them..use them with 600 rates for a year..get some $$ and get them revalved after the season to have more adjustment with the dampning..
and he said that at 600 we should have half a turn to a 1/4 turn left of adjustment on them depending on the cars weight ..

( i won't have nothing left i'm pretty sure on the lude
haha but i need to TAME IT ;p )

Slightly off the topic of this thread, but ...
What kind of spring rates would you guys recommend with off-the-shelf Konis on an Integra? The cars purpose is autocross and daily driving. Track driving isn't really a factor any time soon.
I've only just started autocrossing, if it makes a difference. And the car will definitely be stock for many events while I save the money for suspension.
Thanks
Buji

Hey I have a 88 crx with 400 front and 500 rear with adjustable tockio shocks and have run 500 front 600 rear . I think that it does not matter much in the rear over 500 pounds. Plus I use the stock front bar and a jc rear adjustable bar. Plus don't toe the rear out its to hard to control.

buji - 350-450 front, 400-600 rear should be a good start. Several of the STS Civic Sis in my area run 360 front and 450 rear - it's a pretty good street/autox compromise.

Well, I just bought Ground Control coil-over sleeves with 400F/600R Eibachs. Gonna get some Tokico Illumina's 5 way adj. and see how it feels. I'll post once I get some use out of them. BTW I am setting this up for road racing not autocrossing so I imagine that would call for high spring rates. Yeah?

hey don't do that..
i've also called tokico guy in CA or something like that..
from the number on their site http://www.tokicogazshocks.com i think..
call them..
he told me that they won't be strong enbough to handle anything passed 350lbs ..
u'll just get some crazy bouncing
eheh
get konis..or blistein

Steve- In the past on our Neohio region championship crx we ran the race valved tokico's. with 450-500 up front, and 750-800's in the rear. If you run the stiffer rear springs, be sure your cage is tied together across the shock towers to give the car the stiffness it needs to track properly with out oversteer. We never ran a front sway bar, never will.
I am currently running the dual koni's on the rear and the single koni up front with roughly the same spring rates, except I am developing a rear bar from Progress Technologies, that uses 600's in the rear and it seems alot more controllable at the limit in the middle of the corner. I don't get that "snap at any minute" sensation. So use this this for what it is worth. I hope I have helped you.
