spring rate
Hey all, this is for my daily driver CRX
Im looking for a nice stiff spring rate, I drive my Crx all around but do alot ALOT of caynon carving with it I was wondering what spring rate I should run front and back, I will be dropping a b16a in it within this month so Keeping in mind that motor is probably a tad heavier then the d16, any help would be great.

lots of questions to be answered first.........
do you want kidney hurting stiff ? or a "decent" ride ?
what shocks will you be using ? this will have alot to do with ride quality and the spring rates you would be safe with .........
do you want to track your car ? auto-x ? different goals = different set-ups
more INFO please

This is going to spark an interesting debate both about spring rates and where the bias should be.
Hey guys
I think Im going to run some koni yellow's with my setup, Im looking for a stiff ride but not kidney hurting, maybe somewhere in between
The car will probably see the track once and a while, and maybe some Auto-X depends on what I decide to do with the motor, so whats my happy medium.
What companys offer you to request custom spring rates? Eibach? neuseed? ETC?
Thanks all
Peace and take care.
Im really starting to like this board, lots of knowledge.

ground control stocks all the eibach springs in various sizes
KONI yellows should be OK to about 500 lbs
hmm........maybe 350f/500r with a 22 mm rear bar
works for me
EDIT - just read the topic again , CRX
I dont think anybody makes a 22 rear for the rex , I like the set-up of the ST bar on the rear but the front bar they have is TOO big

Get some good shocks to help control the ride. Then start autocrossing - coil-overs will throw you into STS or a Street Prepared class with the car. Until then... slow down and enjoy the scenery. No sense taking risks out on roads like that. Not to say you should drive 'briskly' but dont go crazy out there, and start doing open track/autoX events. You will then realize any "skills" you thought you learned whipping the car around those backroads dont amount to chit. Just my thoughts.

Figure on 350# in the front and 350# to 400# in the rear. It really depends how much you want the car to rotate, which is not the safest condition in a street car. This also assumes you run a stock front sway bar and a ST 22mm rear bar.
While stiffer springs might be better for ultimate handling, the loss of ride quality on the street suffers dramatically.
You may not get it right the first time, but those would be good starting points.

Our CRX had 350f 400r with the ST rear bar when it was street driven daily for some time. It handled pretty good and I did not find it at all too stiff for the street. I really liked the ride and it made for a very nice and fun street sporty car. It was a little on the soft side for track driving, but it was definitely still good. For autox you want softer spring rates anyway than for track driving, so something in this ballpark would be great for autox also.
500fr/400rr is an excellent setup. softer springs+autocross=slow! the more transitions you do the stiffer the suspension should be, and since autocross courses are typically on smoother pavement you don't have to worry too much about absorbing bumps. fred puhn's book is a good start to figure out how much spring to run, all you need to know is your weight on the front tires, your motion ratio, and what natural frequency you want your car to have. 500lb springs on a rex will net about 250lb/in wheel rate, and provided the car weighs about 2100lbs a natural frequency of 2 hrtz, about as high as you can go on street tires. and right about were my car is. i think it rides quite nice with the koni's, though you have to turn the rebound up pretty high to get the ride quality.
