i was about to buy this short shifter and was wondering if there is a big difference between it and the stock shifter? any opinions would be nice. thanks alot
i used to run one and it rattled like crazy, i took it off after a few months, i wouldnt get one. you have been warned.
i have a racing bucket and 5-point harness too, since the shifter is straight up and does not have bends you are always having to lean in with your shoulder to reach it. serious pain in the *** in a standard seat/belt and almost impossible in the race seat...

ive had the skunk dual bend on now for awhile, it is nice, the placment is nice, it does not rattle and it feels very smooth b/c of the bearings... it is about 100$. i'd recommend the skunk over the b&m even thought the b&m is cheaper.

The rattling is probably because it was hitting the heatshield on your cat. Mine did that too until I took the heatshield off. You can either remove it, or bend it (the heat shield) so they don't make contact.
Also, I agree with you on the part about it being a pain with harnesses. Although, from what I've seen, most short shifters would have this same problem unless you bought one for a teg with the two bends in it. For someone like me with shorter arms and longer legs, it means I have to push the seat way back and lean over a little to reach it, which is a pain even with the stock belt. However, that's easily remedied with a blowtorch and some careful application of force, as the B&M shifter is steel.
I did this with mine and it turned out great, no more leaning over to shift, it's in just the right spot now. I'm really happy with the shifter overall. Nice snappy short throw to it, which is improved even more with ES shift stabilizer bushings. I get so used to my shifter that driving stock civics now feels like I'm driving a pickup truck.

ive had the B&M for about 3 years ..i htink its great shift smooth nice and short and its not aluminuim so you wont break it off ..when they tried to jack my car they tried cutting the shifter to get through my multilock i guess the shifter was too hard to cut ..but they broke off my multilock ..=P anyways i think its a great product so is the skunk 2 ..its just a matter of choice if u want the dual bend in the shifter ....
hmmm i did take out the exhaust heatsheilds mounted on the car but i didnt take the heatsheid off the actual cat. i dont think it was contacting it though b/c it would rattle in every gear starting at about 3k rpms
and the rattle was not like a clang-clang-clang type, it was a seriously fast vibration, like a vibrator

I got a B&M shifter on my ride, it's got a lot shorter throw than the stock shifter but I have to agree that it does sit quite foward since it's straight with no bends. but my boy got the Skunk2 dual bend in his ride which is the exact same 93si as mine and damn that **** feels good. short *** throws with a real smooth comfortable feel. don't get me wrong though I'm still happy with the $35 price tag of mine and shorter shifts than stock but next time around I'm going Skunk2 dual bend.

had one before i soled it for 25,,, good throws and shifts smooth.. but i hate it cause of the angle.. if u got a swap it is not a good idea cause u do have to reach further up from 1st 3rd and 5th .. cause of the integra shift linkage in eg.. but if u got a stock civic. .then it is great..only reason i sold it is because of the reach disadvantage..
