Another stolen car / Reroute the hood cable?
hey guys well last nite at 820 pm my bestfriends GSR was stolen right out of the parking lot of the pheasent lane mall here in nashua nh.( anyone know where that is?) according to the camera they had the hood poped and door open in less than a minute and by the next camera sweep the car was gone.
thing is more and more i hear about how hondas and acuras have the hood cable run through the fender well so all iut takes is a screw driver and you can just pry the plastice and yank on the cable and pop goes the hood
my quesiton to you guys is has anyone done the hood cable relocation and would anyone be interested in seeing a short write up. i mean it won't keep you car from getting stolen but it might help, thats how they got into my friends and ophdeheezy's lude. Ironicly i just finished doing the hood cable relocation laste nite when i heard my friends teg got stolen.. hmm kinda weird, but anyone interested in a write up?

That sucks man. I know where that is. Don't think I'll be parking there ever again.
Where did you relocate the cable?
How do they get in the car from under the hood?
Mine has been broken into several times. Thankfully it was back when my friend owned it. One time they took nothing another time they took his entire system. He only got back about $1800 from insurance but he had spent about $3500 on it. All gone in one day. They broke the window though. 2nd time they fucked up the passengers side door handle.

welll. i think you should do a writeup just incase someone decides this is a mod theyd like to do.
to you for the mod... one thing i do know is that a lot of thiefs only try one method rapidly in the interest of time..so this could really save your poor car.

Yeah, I know on preludes, accords, and a few other hondas, you can just reach your hand up under the front bumper and pull on the exposed part of the cable right before it gets to the latch part and pop the hood. It sucks, but there's not much that you could do about it; a relocation seems a bit of an undertaking
ANSWER = Mr. Gasket Hood Locks
They can be found at DriverFX.com, part number 1472.
Frankly, I don't see the point of hood pins when for about the same price, you can get hood locks. Then again, hood pins hold the hood down better. All and all, it's up to the person and their car.

yea the way that i heard that was most common is that they just pry the plastic down on the left side fender and you reach up and yank on the calbe and pop
they get under your hood first so they can just cut your alarm siren thats what they did on my friends teg. then once that was done they either slim jim the door or on a teg use a peice of coat hanger to hit the power door locks.
sephro- where ar eyou located you know where that mall is? i but i relocated my cable thru a hole right next to the master cylinder that way the hood cable run in the engine compartment the whole time
and yes people probably could rech up from the bottom front and still maybe get to the cable but i tried last nite and it really ****** hard. the easiest way was the left side fender . i know this to be true on accord tegs and ludes.

I live out near worcester work in Framingham.
I wonder if there is a way you could make some sort of an enclosure around the hood release so that they couldn't get to the cable??

well at the front of the car the cable runs inside the upser radiator support so you can't get to it there, and then it makes a 180 sharp turn into the hood latch and thats covered by a thick peice of plastice. i will try tonite to see if it is even possible to reach your hand up. there is alot of plastic in the wayand its up high. my main concern was just the cable in the fender well. ive heard people that know what they are doing just take a long flat head and with out even looking stick it up inbetween 2 of the speed clips that hold the inner fender lining on and just pop it in seconds.
if they break your window the set of your alarm. the point is that if they get in the engine compartment they cut the siren , then getin your car. a smart theif doesn't want to dram attention . if they can't disable the siren right away then its mroe likely that they might consider not doing it in fear of being noticed.
if it was such a stupid idea im not sure why there owuld be such a large write up on Team Integra on how to relocate the hood cable,

Get yourself a hood lock. They are cable locks but you run the cable under the hood not through the fender. Somewhat a bitch to install you have to drill about an inch hole through the firewall. And putting in the lock portion can be a bitch lining everything up correctly. Again. The car can still be stolen but it will take them longer. You can find them in better car audio shops IE not BEST BUY.. Good Luck
theres a hole i enlarged rightnext the master cylinder , i put the cable thru , plenty of slack. makes things a bit harder thats the idea, almost nothing can prevent you car form bein stolen by a determined theif
What about this:
1) relocate the hood cable.
2) get a HOOD sensor so your alarm goes off if the hood is opened.
3) get a dummy alarm and put it in an obvious place, and conceal your real alarm in a good place.

well things is should i do a quick write or does everyone think it s dumb idea? i jsut did it so it s jsut alittle harder to get in my engine bay. i mean think if they disconnect your battery cable then that disable any alarm unless you have a secondary battery
if you've rerouted it in a place where it is not accessable, that's great, and please do a writeup. But if you've rerouted it in a different place that though less accessable, is still an option for a determined thief, then don't write it up.
i know where the pheasant lane mall is. i'm not surprised that another honda/acura is stolen from there. i knew a guy that had his accord stolen from that mall.
my cousin had his car vandalized and almost stolen at the burlington mall. so my point is, never ever freakin bring your pride and joy to public places such as malls, movies...etc it's just a resistance free easy target for thieves. get a beater and take it to the mall!
i found out from my cousin that same day his car got vandalized, three other cars got jacked around the same time. the cops said it was a group of kids from lynn doing the dirt.
hood locks and back up batteries are your best bet. **** it if your relocating your hood latch cable, mine as well relocate the battery.
remember most car thieves are little 16 y/o's that have no job and now that school's over they are on the prowl. if i took my lude to the mall, i would be checkin up on it every 5 minutes.
anywayz, back to relaxation. i'm at newport news, VA right now. so all you VA heads holla! i'm about to rent a caddy deville or mustang saturday. who's up for some racing? j/p

edit: Cottonwoodz - your right if some one wants your car bad enough nothing is going to stop them and ive realized this , but in an attempt to make it just that little bit harder i moved my hood cable to where no screw driver can reach
