Default Advancing timing to 18 degrees

I see several people say they've advanced their timing and have gained 5hp or so.
Are there any drawbacks to doing this?

This means the spark fires earlier before TDC right?

Run good fuel and you shouldn't have any problems. Keep in mind that 18 degrees is still within spec.

I know on my mustang you use a timing light and turn the distributor to change the spark timing. How is it done on the ITR?

Is 18 degrees still in spec for the GSR? Or would you recommend only turning it to 15-16?

Hondas Spec for the B-series motors is "16 degree + or - 2degree" so yes its within spec

Do you have to retard your timing if you're using nitrous?

Any warranty issues in doing this? I have to run by the dealer tomorrow, and Im wondering if I should even bother asking them to do this for me.

The dealer told my friend that his new prelude will retard the timing if the octane in the gas isn't high enough. Anyone know if the ITR will do that too?

It's called a knock sensor. It will only retard if it detects detonation, and yes, all DOHC VTECs have it.
