Default ok...have a question about b18c5 swap into my eg

ok...before i start, please don't flame me, i just need to know these things...first, i want the b18c5 swap and i would do it myself but i don't have the time, or another car to get me around for a while, to do it myself. so my first question is this, i got quoted a price of $5200 for complete b18c5 swap from a 2000 with 28,000 miles on it...is this a good price?...my other concern is, is this swap really worth it for a daily driven car that i would also be auto-xing with?? i know it's reliable and i know it has great power...and yes, i want to go all motor with any setup i have, i don't want FI...i need serious answers on this please

That seems like a great price to me, yes the swap is worth it (I've never talked to anyone who has regretted it).

BUT, someone has to do the swap, meaning you aren't going ot be able to drive your car for awhile either way so why not do it yourself and save some money?

most shops will only take 1-2 days for a swap. I swapped my friends engine in 3 days myself with hardly any problems...its the wiring that is time consuming and aggrevating

$5,200.00 installed or what?

And can you get the VIN off that engine to verify that it is not stolen to?

The swap is easily done in ONE day with absolutely not one single wire needed to be added if you keep the ITR engine harness. **** their labor and you don't need the P73 ECU. Tell them to knock a few hundred off and sell that ECU to someone with a 99-00 Civic Si looking for cheap horsepower.

THE SWAP IS 100% PLUG AND PLAY

That's right the engine will drop right in and will plug right in if you run the ITR engine harness and get a re-chipped P28 from kenji211@tampabay.rr.com in FLA near you.

I'd ask how much for just the engine, tranny, wiring harness, axles, shift linkage, mounts, exhaust manifold, catalytic convertor, etc.

This is probably THE easiest swap I can think of - period.

You would simply need to use the Integra timing side mounting bracket and mount itself, rear Integra mount bracket with the Civic mount, topside tranny mount from either the Civic or Integra, and use Integra front mounting brackets with the Civic rubber mounts and it will bolt right in with no hassles.

From there you simply bolt the ITR exhaust manifold and cat right up to the Civic exhaust since it is all the exact same length, and pop the axles in and plug the engine harness in at the strut tower areas.

Don't run the lame-*** ITR OBD2 ECU with a jumper harness because then you'd have to wire up OBD2 bullshit and the ITR ECU doesn't make as much power either.

Ask me how I know all of this...

Well $5,200.00 installed is a really kick-*** price, but I'd do it yourslef to know it's done with care and no corners will be cut that way.

With the money saved you could buy yourself a nice Craftsman Mechanic's toolset and still pocket money and have a swap under your belt.

I would never try to make light of a job and make it sound easier than it is, but this swap is totally possible with two people in your driveway in ONE day if you start early in the morning.

If you work really slow then I'd say two days max, but really there are very few problems with this swap. The biggest bitch is the shift linkage pin and possibly breaking the axle nuts loose, but that's about it.

yeah, that's true...thanks a lot man...oh, and about the tools, i don't need them...not to brag or anything, but i have a HUGE tool box with tons and tons of all Snap-On tools--all of my step father's, who's been a mechanic for over 25 years...he said he would help me with the swap

Image Station really knows how to reduce the quality of my damn pics too!

I'd load them up on We-Todd-Did, but for some reason it won't let me log on...

"ONE day if you start early in the morning."
"shift linkage pin"

I did the cx to ex motor and I have the same problem. Everyone who did it on their own Save Some Cash. I rent an engine hoist one day(sat) and free day on Sunday (they close Sunday) for $25. Started early and Was STUCK with the Damn "shift linkage pin" haha That was my first time swapping a standard tranny. Like *B18C5-EH2* said, "The swap is easily done in ONE day". It takes me around 14 hours of work time not including the shift linkage pin times. Newbee + did not research b/c the Swap/speeding feeeeever just started to bloom within me

My buddy wants to get his hatch done by a shop too but he doesnt want to pay somebody who probobly didnt even go to college to do the swap for him. The shop will swap it in and also do the auto to manual conversion for around 4-5 g's. Is this a good price? And if we do it buy ourselves is there a way to skip the wiring frustration, like some kind of wire harness thats already been wired and can be bought? By the way he wants to swap a gsr motor into his 95 DX hatch AUTO.

Sorry if I hijacked your thread but I dont want to make a new thread about the same problem we are having

Just remember that swaps in Hondas place you in SM for SCCA Solo II, which in many regions is the land of Forced E36 M3s, Supra TTs, and A4s...

good luck with the swap!

Damn, I never knew that? So does it have a longer b pipe since the integra's length is significantly longer? Was this teh same for gsr's too because when i got my B18C it only came with the header and no cat, so i got a straight pipe

Yeah shift linkage pins are no fun at all especially laying under a car with no room to start with . I have one question to add to this I have a 97 jdm B18C that im gonna be putting in anyday now I already have vtec and knock sensor wired from my B16 I just pulled out but they sent me a 97 gsr motor which is OBD2 so far I know the injector plugs are different and I believe the distributor is too I havnt checked that with my harness yet. I know you can repin OBD2 distributors for OBD1 has anyone done this any problems? Or I know in Japan they dont have the same OBD2 we have so will it plug into an OBD1 harness? Also any other problems that I might run in to.

what about rewiring OBD 2 distributor to obd1....what about adding KNOCK SENSOR wire ( don't need this if you run a chipped ecu but you will if you run a jdm p30)

trust me.....i just put a 2000 b16a into a 95 ex coupe.....NOT PLUG AN PLAY....swap took me 7 hours total.....but then again i have done bout 40 of them....

you can use your EG wire harness and add wires where needed, whether vtec, vtec oil pressure, but it is best if you use ODB 1 DOHC distributor rather than rewiring.....

hmmm the p73 ecu is putting my engine at 180whp. I do not think it is that bad. This is done on a Superflow chassis Dyno w/Wideband. As far as I know, my torque curve was great and a/f ratio was on par. I have not tried the Kenji ECU but willing. Wonder how much more power it will make and if it will justify the cost..........

That is 96-98 CIVIC.

92-95 Civic and 99-00 Civic clips at the shock tower while 96-98 is one main harness.
