Default Lightweight Battery and Relocation question

If I am running an Integra in a class where lightweight batteries/relocation is allowed, where should I relocated the battery to in my car? Is it better in the back of the car where the spare tire would be? Or is it better placed on the passenger side floorboard behind where the passenger seat would be?

Also what lightweight/affordable battery do you recommend? (It obviously must be passenger compartment safe)

Any other tips or comments are greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

IMO the passenger side trunk. There may be rules regarding venting of the battery if it is the passenger compartment but i am not sure. I think there is also some fromula that uses the distance from the nose of the car and weight from that point to help determine the balance, can anybody help with this one (physics was a long time ago). take for example a person weighing 200 lbs five feet from the front of the car so 200*5=1000. Now consider the battery location to the trunk about 10 feet around 40 lbs maybe well 10*40 = 400, but if you moved it too the floor board of the passenger side that is 40*5=200. so the trunk mount is 1000 on the left and 400 on the right, that is more balenced better than 1000 on the left and 200 on the right.
I cant really remeber where I found this, it may be used more for drag racing and unsprung weight. Personally I use this idea on my car as much as possible.

Spoon and Type One both make lightweight "race" batteries for the Integra.

The Spoon one is 13.5 lbs.

pegasus racing has batteries that look identical to the spoon/T1 JDM shizzle for 1/3 the cost.

Save your money and don't get that over priced POS.

Not a discussion about batteyr location, but a very nice write up on lightweight batteries

Thanks for the help.

So the rear passenger side trunk compartment would be the best location for handling?

I thought the rules only allow batteries to be relocated into the rear trunk or behind where the back seats should be in a hatchback.

Anyways, whichever battery you go for, read this page first: http://www.stealth316.com/2-dynabatt.htm

Hello Big Phat R,

You wrote;

Spoon and Type One do not make batteries, they relabel Hawker batteries for a stupid cost!

Best battery going is the Hawker Genesis non fancy label of a Hawker Odyssey.

Look here and why move your polar momentum from one end of the car to the other, put it behind your passenger seat if rules allow;

Hawker Genesis G16EP. It's an SLA battery that weighs 13.5lbs. Based on the weight and dimensions, I assume it's the same as the "Spoon" battery, although I have never seen a "Spoon" Battery. The G16EP is $63 here if you use the coupon "VMAX" for another 10% off:

Also, you might want to pick up some SAE battery terminals there too while you are at it for another $10 to make the installation easier:
http://www.gotbatteries.com/Pr...dOn05=

Or if you like brand names, I'm sure Spoon would be more than happy to sell you the same battery rebranded and charge you 4x the amount Hawker charges...

I have the Hawker Genesis G16EP in both of my street cars with no problems so far.

Andrew

Sorry I'm not privy to that information. Is Hawker available in Canada? Never heard of them.

I just use OEM Honda ones for 80 cdn - good enough.

I relocated mine to behind the passenger seat. I was told that you want weight between the front and rear axles. I used an Odyssey battery, 265 CCA, $75 shipped. Cranks up every time.

About Hawker Genesis and its repackaged versions: In the link I posted before, the big shocker of the story is that the original Hawker labeling warns not to tamper with the labels, as it will shorten the battery's life, and relabeling is precisely what all the repackagers do.

Dunno about Hawker and all that, but my battery is an "Everstart" riding lawnmower battery. It cost $19.98, weighs 14 lbs, and provides 275 cranking amps which is more than enough to start my car anytime. This car is my daily driver, and the battery has been installed for 7 months. It's also perfectly legal for SCCA autox competition, but I have no idea whether it's legal for road racing (or if the rules are any different). I can't imagine why folks would pay the obscene prices aftermarket companies want for a stupid battery. It's just gotta start the car...

Hawker Genesis and Odyssey are military spec batteries and have a life span of 10 years. How many $20.00 lawnmower batteries and head aches are you going to go through in 10 years?

wow, yours is heavier than mine!

Yep, you have to change the cable ends. Took about 5 minutes and cost $0.86. I actually like these ends better now that I've had them for a little while.

I don't know... 4?

just a quick question. can the lawn mower batteries support a daily driver? the only radio i have in my car is a honda factory and two 6.5 speakers. the car is going to become my race car but i need a new battery anyway and was wondering if i could use the lawnmower battery in my car while its still a daily driver

and also what kind of battery clamps are you using to make the cables stay to the battery?
