Default Anyone do a b16a in a 3rd Gen?

Have you ever done or heard of someone doing a b16a in a 3rd gen? What all has to be done? Anyone know of any problems? Just so you know, I am not looking for crazy amounts of power or even running at the track- I just need something faster than my oil-burning b21a1. I just need a 5 spd and V-TEC!! Any help is much appreciated!

why the hell do u wanna put a civic motor in your lude...do u think vtec makes u fast..... those torque-less pieces of ****...you know there's the people who get paid for this kinda work...called mechanic's, call one as u don't sound very knowledgeable...

a h22 or b20 (prelude motor not storked 1.8 liter) would be a better choice

s2000s are torque-less too. are you saying those aren't fast? sounds like a b16 would be an upgrade from his current setup

OK, wait a minute- who's retarted? First of all, the guy bashing me up top must have some sort of complex with being an *******. I know what mechanics are, but can't I just ask a ******* question? Thats what this place is for right? If you don't have anything intelligent to say stay the hell off this site!!!! Personally, I like the whole B16 idea and it would be a major upgrade for me. Come on, its not like I want to put a Chevette motor in it!!!!! I am not looknig for major power, just something reliable and yes-- WITH V-TEC! I just like the way v-tec cars drive you piece of ****! Uh, duh, I know I am not going to run 13.4's just because I have it----You know why? Because I ******* don't want a drag car!!! If you can't understand that then you can go to these places where they sell weapons---- Yeah, they are called gunshops!!!!!!! You deserve a bullet in your head!!!!!

VTEC..... not V-TEC or VTECH or VEETECH or whatever

and yes, you are retarded to want to put a torque-less B16 in a Prelude, fisrt of all, all other engine other than the Prelude/Accord engines, tilt forward.... Prelude/Accord engine tilt towards the back, this would require a lot more fabrication than it is worth, all in all, you BEST BET would be to put in an H22, 2.2L DOHC VTEC

if you want help, use the search function before asking dumb questions, stupid questions like this are asked way to frequently... another good idea, when you need help, don't be a dick, it will get you nowhere

BlackPrelude93:

First of all I'm ashamed that you live in a neighboring county to me here in Georgia. I'm in Clayton if you ever want to get your *** handed to you by a "slow VTEC" engine.

While I do agree that the B16A would suck in a 1988-1991 Prelude, I'm not going to be a ******* ******* about it and flame a guy for simply asking if it could even work.

For your information the B20A1 and B21A are the shittiest Honda engines ever made. They have the worst R/S ratio of any B series engine and they make such little power for being 2.0 and 2.05 liters.

I work at a shop and we see more fucked up B20A and B21A motors that are driven lightly by people that don't ever rev over 4000rpm.

For you to "know what you're talking about" you sure do suggest some whack **** by telling him to go back with the stock engine.

If anyone ever asks me what engine should go in that car I'll tell them if they want to rev an engine to it's redline and drive it hard, either swap in an H series which will cost shitloads more money than the car is worth, or simply sell the car because the 1988-1991 B20A and B21A motors just don't hold up to the abuse like most other B series and H series motors will.

There is no need to flame a guy so badly like you did bro. If you want to fire back at me understand that I'm not across the country, but more like 15 minutes down GA highway 85 so if you really want to issue any challenges then I'm more than game.

Unless you're knocking on 12's do not waste my time.

Normally I'm not such an elitist-sounding *******, but it's people like YOU that give the rest of us Honda owners a bad name. Here you are talking constant **** on someone for simply asking a question.

There's a much more tactful way of getting a point across than flaming the **** out them.

If you ever want to see how slow VTEC is hit me up and we'll meet up in Fayetteville and we can go for some fun runs if you wish. If you know any of the Fayetteville crew then ask them about Tom's silver Civic hatchback. Ask the guy with the new 350Z what he thinks of it.

Well let me tell you guys something about this dumbass David a.k.a BlackPrelude93:

Me and this guy have gone back and forth a lot on http://www.vtecatlanta.com because he is the biggest ******* LIAR I've ever encountered on the internet.

This guy has lied about having a turbocharged Prelude plenty of times and he even stole pics of someone else's boosted Prelude and posted them up as his own on that ATL VTEC site.

If anyone doubts me then register on that site and start a topic asking "So What Ever Happened to GalaxyBlackLude?" which is the same guy. You will no doubt get "he got busted in lies too many times and went home crying like a bitch" from more than a few members there.

Here's a link to a topic that I started in this very forum because of this fibbing sack of ****, BlackPrelude93:

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=392055

Read that topic and you will understand that this child doesn't know **** about Hondas and furthermore, would stoop low enough to steal pics of someone else's car to try and "prove" that his Lude is turbocharged.

Cliffnotes from that link are he stole a pic of a turbo'd Lude's engine bay and listed all sorts of wrong info, the biggest of which is listing the completely WRONG turbo kit.

I had linked the topic on that ATL site, but I busted his *** so bad that everyone dogpiled on him and they DELETED the topic because he got busted so hard.

This same liar also said he had an H22A in a CR-X a few years ago, but he could not recall one single detail about the swap. He couldn't even tell me the axles, mounts, ECU, wiring harness, etc was used on his own "H22A-swapped CR-X".

For a know it all he knew not one detail about his swap. This kid used to talk **** to me not knowing that my best friend was a co-worker of his and already knew everything about his car. This liar also said he had a VTEC engine in his 1993 Lude, yet for some reason it still had the stock non-VTEC engine in it when my friend helped him fix his latch after his C/F hood install.

He'll be so pissed when he reads thsi because it's all 100% true. I have never lied on H-T about anything and anyone who frequents this MB and the EG+Civic/Del Sol Forum can vouch for me.

I also thinm it's funny how theis clown linked some joke of an MB as a reference to give him some credibility. If they look up to this lame *** then I'm sure that the site is the worst MB ever besides Street Kiaz.com.

I know this is the same lame *** because he posted about carbon fiber hood problems on H-T and my friend Daniel helped his dumb *** fix the hood latch.

David/BlackPrelude93, you are once again busted by me. You must hate me by now, huh? You're a ******* know-it-all that knows nothing.

Last thing and then I'm done with your lame *** David.

You sit here and say "S2000s aren't fast" but they run a 14.0 bone stock and lay down WAY more whp than your Prelude has ever or will ever make.

How can you talk **** when you have a car that would be lucky to hit mid 15's?

Default Re: Anyone do a b16a in a 3rd Gen? (vehic_illu)

By the way I'd like to actually contribute something more to this topic other than busting some lamer.

As far as dropping a B16A goes into the 1988-1991 Prelude, it is not a bolt-in affair by any means.

The mounting positions for the B16A are nothing like the B20A and B21A.

Wiring might not too horrible because you could get a pre-OBD PR3/PW0 ECU.

I'm not even sure if the Lude tranny will even bolt up to the other B sereis engines either.

Even *IF* you got it in and running right, it would be a turd. I own a B16A2 in a 1992 Si hatchback and it is quick for what it is, but it's also lighter than the Prelude in question.

Before anyone jumps my **** and thinks I'm issuing David challenges and "knocking on 12's" with the B16A2 hatchback, I'm referring to my B18C5-powered CX hatchback.

As far as the H22A goes, it is a nearly imposible swap. There is an H-T member from Atlanta that is a friend of mine with an H22A-powered 1988-1991 Prelude. His name is Rashawn (sp?) and he could tell you just hoiw hard it is to do that swap, and furthermore to even get it running like a stock H22A should be running. I'm sure his SN is like H22A3rdGen or some **** like that.

He went through hell about mounts from Place, wiring is a nightmare, and the other unforseen cpmplications like the differnece between the H22A's hydro-actuated clutch compared to the cable-driven 1988-1991 Prelude style tranny.

I hope that info helps some.

My bottom line?

I hate to say this because I understand that some people really love their cars, but I would try to sell that Prelude and get something else. If you like Preludes you might want to get at least a 1992-up style or a 1993-2001 H22A-equipped one.

I know you said that you don't want a drag car, so perhaps a JDM version of the 1988-1991 Prelude B20A might be what you need. If you don't drive the car really hard then you shouldn't run into any problems any time soon if the swap is done right and the engine comes in good condition.

Heres your serious answer! There are no mounts that I have found for the swap so that has to be fabed. The b16 tranny is pushrod where the 3gs is cable so that would also have to be fabricated. not to mention the axles and the other usual swap parts. It can be done but not in a short amount of time and with lots of patience and clearance measuring.

On a side note, don't forget the weights of the Civic and the Prelude. They're both around 2600lbs.

All of the effort to land a 140whp 102ft-lbs. torque to the wheels B16A, and the end results would be low 16's if you can even get it running right.
