Default rear brakes and parachute

I have a drag Civic that I've been working on for the last few years and am finally getting ready to take it out for the first time. I'd like to find out what some of the faster cars are using for brakes now. From the get go I eliminated the rear brakes upon the advice of Stephan. He suggested that the rear skinnies tend to lock up when the brakes are applied. I do not plan on using the chute when I don't have to, but I'm hesitant on what might happen if I don't, since I no longer have rear brakes. Do you guys use rear brakes? Can anyone elaborate on their setups? Thanks.

Just curious on how you plan on doing any kind of burn-out? You use a rear brake, just not as a part of the stopping system. The rear brake will have its own hydro. system to run the staging brake only..

I had to learn the hard way about the back brakes I had the MB solid rear axle in my car for about 20min. and took it out on the street just to test it and the back brakes locked up and i totaled it after 3 whole days of work. I like to know how to eliminate the rear brakes and still have rear brakes for my burn out. any help will be great thanks.

I thought the rule book says you must have working rear brakes. I could be wrong.

If you run an MB or other rear suspension setup, the rear brakes should be setup seperately then your front brakes, so that only the front brakes are used for braking, and the rear brakes are only applied for burnouts and staging. A Chute and the front brakes are what would slow you down at the end.

Do not use the rear brakes for stopping for drag racing. Use a hand break just to do the burn out and staging.

Just buy a hydraulic staging brake. This is for a "race only" application intended sticktly for burnouts and staging. <p>

I do have a hydraulic staging brake which I will use for my burnout; it is plumbed to the rear wheels. I forgot to mention that part.
How does a car without rear brakes react at 140 or so without using the chute?

We use the Wilwoods front and rear. I have the hydraulic brake but I dont use it too much crap. Besides with all that power there aint no way that those skinnies are gonna stop you from moving on the burnout.

you dont actually have to plumb the rear brake seperately from the front.. ive seen other guys run wilwood proportional block with a inline line lock to do the burn out ... totally eliminates the need for a staging brake.
