Default "Wiring" VTEC...

Everyone always talks about swapping, then "wiring" up VTEC, and any additional sensors...But nobody has ever gone into actually the physical wiring. How is it done? I would like to see a picture, or possibly a good explination...

"vtec" is simply a solenoid with a switch to activate it.......

to keep it simple, here's a simple example of a basic, lazy hardwire....

my buddy wired his vtec solenoid to a regular "toggle" type switch via 12v, then grounded it.......simply put, when he flipped the switch, the vtec solenoid engages, thus.....VTEC y0!!

the reason we had to temporarily wire this vtec switch is because his prelude was an si, and we swapped in an h22a, so we hardwired vtec for a couple of weeks

I was asking how to physically tap the wire into the ECU, and so on...

But thanks for your tip...It does help me further understand.

I'll see if I can find any pics from my swap. Basically I had an extra wire harness since I pulled the B16 from a wrecked Del Slo. I pulled the wires it used from
VTEC so that I could utilize same wires and colors.

Basically the harness plug (ECU side) has an indention on each side, I used a really small needle nose and pushed each side back- one at a time (very carefully- can crack and did on the Del Slo one since I didnt care as much), and that exposes the wires so that they can come out. From the other side of the plug where it plugs in, you have to use a fine point something, slide it in a depress the locking part of the wire so that it can be pulled out. WOW this sounds really confusing- I'll do what I can tomorrow with pictures.

As far as installing- you pop open the plug end (ECU side) its going in to and slide the appropriate end in and spot its supposed to go. And for the engine side plug, you just push out the rubber filler and slide into the appropriate slot.

This is how I did it so that it looked COMPLETELY stock. I didn't rig it in anyway. I didn't run wires straight from the solenoid as many do. Like I said, if someone doesn't beat me to it, I will take pics to illustrate as best as possible

Go to the junkyard and get wires from another ECU and the wire harness off the motor. Just cut a few inches back on the wires and tap them into your ECU / engine harnesses and add your wire on to them

What I did for that OEM look

Junk yards in California are not the place to go if you are looking for cheap Honda parts. They charge more at a junkyard sometimes than they do at the stealership...They prey on unsuspecting guys such as myself looking for odd parts...Then stick it right up your can.

See if you can get an old engine harness from a friend, or maybee the classifieds, then get yourself one of those eye glass repair kit screwdrivers. With the screw driver pull back the little tab on the connectors, then plug them it to the ecu harness. Hope that solves your problem.

Well, I have the complete harness from the shock tower to the engine...

I assume you are reffering to the harness that is inside the vehicle...

Ok- here's my ghetto *** labeled pics. The pics came out good, but my labeling is shitty. Oh well. If someone has an easier way than this, or a better way- feel free to chime in. This was how I did it, it came out clean, looks stock and functions perfect.

Basically, I'm just trying to show how the wires go into the plugs and how they can be removed. Yes, the guy was referring to the harness that runs from the shock tower (engine side harness) to the ECU plugs and all the wiring in between. If you can get an extra harness to butcher you can learn and not mess up yours. For the exact pin outs, check the hybrid site or look for Katman's illustration. These are not the exact pin outs- just generic references This is my old butchered Del Slo harness, mine was done correctly and cleanly- this is for demonstrational use I am not liable for you breaking ****- it takes a little time and patience, don't rush.

Now for the pics- yeah theres quite a few but they are sized down. If you need better ones or ones with out the nasty writing let me know.

I did an obd2-obd1 swap with my y8 using a p28 ECU. I have four connectors I need help with:

1. round butt with 2 pin wires blue/red and green/black
2. round butt with 1 pin wire blue/black and a black non pin wire
3. round butt with 2 pin wires yellow/black and black
4. rounded square butt with red/yellow pin wire

If you could help me figure out where these go then I can put in the y8 head.

Thanks
Dan

I don't know why put I find this post funny. I thought wiring for vtec was self explantory. Simple stuff to tell you the truth.

Well, for an experienced electronics mechanic such as yourself, maybe...But I have never embarked in such wiring mechanics and do not wish to foul up anything and be forced to re-do the wiring...Or have problems after my engine install. I'm glad I made you laugh though.

If you ever in my part of town you can come and look at my wiring I did on my hatchback. I can explain it to you better if you see it in person. Mine is nice and ghetto. Just the way I like it.

Shoot, I've hooked up stereo systems and done all sorts of electrical ****. But this was definitely something new that I didn't want to mess up on the first time. It's simple once you do it, but getting the basic idea of what to do definitely helps
