Think im going to remove the balancer belt..need opinions
Ok i had the belt replaced with timing belt a few months ago. since then the motor has been vibrating horribly. i assume the belt is not on right. anyways i called my mechanic and told him and he said if its not on right then he will do the labor for free but if not i have to pay 125. Should i just remove the belt for the extra power. someone told me that with it on wrong its more rough than with no belt at all so i assume i can deal with a lil less vibration than i am getting now. thanks a lot. peace
First off check your motor mount on the timing belt side of the motor make sure everything is tight.
When do you feel the vibrations?? I know the es motor mounts will increase vibrations at idle especially.
and about the belts check out this thread for all the opinions on removing the belt https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=503372

Well heres the deal, I had the jdm h22 put in about 7 months ago. It ran great but soon after i had to replace the dist. one day i was driving and everything locked up and died. had it towed to the shop and the mech said the spring in the tensioner popped out and got caught between the timing belt and balancer belt. the balancer belt was torn to crap and the timing belt was worn. he replaced the tensioner and both belts. ever since he did that its had a bad vibration at higher rpms, id say a lil after 6000 is the worst but when i engage the clutch and let the revs drop its like it vibrates a lot more. i can actually feel the revs dropping. but i know what the es motor mounts feel like because i had em when the swap got done and thats not the problem. so im almost posative its the belt. hell im prolly gonna pull it out but i wanted some more help on the subject. later
I would double-check the position of everything. If the balance shaft is off a few notches, it will probably cause additional vibrations. Don't just yank the belt off though, it drives the water pump. The only way to detach the balance shaft is to install a replacer kit that removes the balance shaft entirely, but leaves a free-spinning gear for the belt to go around. Don't know what's involved in the tear-down, but I've only seen it done on total build-ups.
You have to be carefull when puting the balance shaft belt on. One of the shafts (I believe it's the rear one... someone please correct me if I'm wrong) doesn't ballance at the mark but once every 3rd revolution. You you can check this if you take the belt off and match the mark on the balance shaft gear at it's top position. When you let go of it, it should not want to "float" away from the top mark. If it does, either forward or backward, turn it 360 degrees and try it again. You'll know what I mean when you try it.
Anyway, that could be causing your vibrations... HTH

I have never heard that from a shop, never read that in a manual, never imagined any engineer would design something so utterly, utterly stupid as that.
...
When I get back to the shop I'm going to re-align my belts, just in case.

ive put on my balancer belt on wrong at one time. And yes,the motor will vibrate more than if it had no belt at all.

And no it doesnt run the water pump. Either take it off and get more vibrations with some more speed or you can put it back on properly and have a nice smooth engine that is a lil slower.
So what about the reliability issues?? A bunch of people on PO.com seem to think its fine to do but then theres the group thats against it. i wanna know if im gonna mess something up bad or if i shouldnt have a worry at all? thanks guys!
All it does is counter vibrations.. If you like a nice smooth engine then get it fixed. If you dont mind more vibrations then take it off. It will not change much in relability its more for creature comfort..
