Default Don't buy anything from GUDE.

During the installation the mechanic found that the TB cams had been installed incorrectly, and they had to reposition them and recalibrate the TPS. I thought that would be the end of my problems (after I had to threaten to revoke my CC to get the core charge back).

The story pics up a few months down the road. I've just rebuilt the engine; Portflow head, Wiseco 11:1 pistons, Crower billet rods, all the goodies. I dropped a cylinder with 800 miles on the new engine . After tearing down the engine and finding a damaged head and piston, my mechanic informs me that the cause of all my troubles was that GUDE TB. They had not loctited or peened the threads on the throttle plate bolts, and one of them had come loose and destroyed the first available cylinder. I contacted GUDE, but got the same old "It's not our problem" line that these ******** are famous for.

DON"T BUY ANYTHING FROM GUDE - YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Check out the PICS.

Sorry to hear that mang...My friends in the hi-perf auto biz say most guys in the biz suck "as ppl" in general.

K8Teller excluded of course!

I'd take them to small claims court for the value of your engine, rebuild and down time on the car. It only costs $4x something to file with the court.

im running their head package on my car and it took over 6 months to get my core money back and that was after i turned it over to the CC company. i disputed the charge once the 30days was up for the return of core money. it was up to the CC company at that point, not me.

i had a JG t-body already so i didnt need the GUDE t-body. i opted for a GUDE cam gear instead of the t-body.

i can contest that the head package does not make anywhere near the amount of advertised power.

of course, w/ the mild motor, 2300lbs w/ driver, and slicks, the car runs 8.80s 1/8 mile and 13.90s in the 1/4. i would have to say it makes more power than a stock head but not by much......

was the portflow head milled at all? what was your final compression? did you get to hammer on it much before the problems? what type of engine management? who did the block work?

sorry for the long list of Q's but i am considering building this motor when my times level off. thanks a million in advance and i am very sorry about your loss.....

Hey KC Accord, that's what's so depressing, the car hadn't even been to the tuners yet. I hadn't "hammered it" at all. I was planning on a trip to P1 this week to have the SAFC installed and tuned.

The portflow head wasn't milled. I knew that I would be using the 11:1 Wiseco's, and didn't want to have to worry about detonation on pump gas. I built the automatic tranny (L10), before I knew that it screwed up using Hondata and other types of engine management systems. P1 said that they had one that would work, I think it was Electromotive, but the base price was around $2k. I didn't think that I needed that on a street car.

Hopefully, I can get this thing put back together soon.

I was actually going to buy their head package. Gude claims a gain of 50 whp. What a joke.

Sorry bout your motor. sucks to see all your hard work disappear in an instant because of someone elses incompetance.

Has anyone ever actually had a POSITIVE experience with GUDE? I've never heard of one.

There is one person on HondaSociety who has the Gude head package on his 6th Gen. He said he felt some power gains, but has yet to put it on the dyno. The problem with Gude is their customer service.

yeah that would be her , checked the oil level in our very sloped driveway at least all she did was crank it like that.

02 spec-v. been to nissan dealer 3 times for a non-starting problem, towed there twice. car cranks but doesn't start. all 3 times I've been told by the dealer that we flooded the car. 2x they wanted to do a $120 fuel induction service. basically they claim that everything is our fault. I've been told everything in the book: using cheap gasoline, using the wrong octane, told that we pumped the gas pedal causing it to flood. I've even been told that "this car has a tempramental motor, thats just the way it is" and that the fuel induction cleaning is "regular maintenence every 15 to 30k". bullshit. My call to Nissan north american customer service pretty much resulted in a "tough ****" reply. I just can't accept that, especially in a new car. If we wanted a car that would was unreliable, we could have kept her chevy beretta with 220k on the clock, at least it was paid for

worst thing is that we aren't the only ones with the "hard starting" problem. apparently there are quite a few other people with 02 se-rs that have similar problems, and Nissan refuses to admit there is anything wrong with the car. Of course kbb value of the car reflects this.

and don't even get me started with the shitty paint quality

If we weren't 4k upside down on the piece of ****, it would be gone tomorrow.

sorry for the rant

Jweller: Sorry to hear all that! That's definately a new-car horror story.

Interesting about the hard starting problem. That sounds like it could be "leaky fuel injectors"...basically, one or more injectors are leaking pressure and flooding to a non-start condition. This fuel-related "hard-starting problem" is actually a problem in some non-turbo 13b 86-91 Rx7's. The fix is actually a non-Mazda sanctioned by-pass valve that drains excess fuel to the fuel return lines.

some insight (ripped from a google search):
"Side note: If option 1 solves the problem and flooding is the issue you likely have 1 or more leaky injectors (common problem). If I understand this correctly their are two sets of injectors, primary and secondary. You can have the primary ones taken out and cleaned for a minimal charge which may solve the problem. You can also buy a little cross connector from Mazdatrix (an rx7 shop) that equalizes the fuel pressure in the rail (this is the fuel return line which i mentioned) which may help. If it is the secondary injectors either be prepared to spend big bucks or live with the fuel cut switch which is what I did on one of my rx7's"

There's another 4thGen guy on HS...on here too lol. Brett/BJShanley2112... he has the GUDE cam and a P&P head but I don't know if the head was done by Gude...he's building the F22A up... He seemed pretty happy with it. I dunno though...

On a side note: I know a guy with a GSR and he had his B18C1 head ported at portflow and he was incredibly happy. Then he got his cams regrinded at webcams and he was ecstatic. He hasn't run the 1320 with the new head and cams yet but it is def way faster than before with just the P&P and cam/valvetrain. I wouldn't hesitate to go to Portflow after his experience...
