Default SMS 2-1/2" Mandrel Bent Cat Back System

Due to the response I've gotten from RStoR's post of the system we built for his car, I'm going to offer a kit to build your own exhaust. This is by no means a bolt on system. Welding well be required. This system will be available until I can get a bolt on system ready for the market. The system is for the Integras and may work on the Civics but I haven't tried it yet. The system will utilize 2-1/2" tubing and mandrel bends, a Magnaflow 4" round by 14" long resonator and a 4" x 9" x 14" long Magnaflow straight through center/offset muffler. The same items used in RStoR's system.

In addition, the kit will come with all the parts that are needed to build it on the car. Flanges, gaskets, bolts/nuts, hangers, straight tubing, 5 mandrel bends (cut to length and expanded for a slip fit connection), resonator, muffler and a straight piece of stainless steel 2-1/2" tubing for a tip. I'm looking into some additional tips that may be available (hopefully for a small $ increase). This system will be for performance and not flash. At this time the B pipe will be STRAIGHT and installer will just adjust the location of the resonator in the tunnel to compensate for the straight B pipe.

The kits will be offered in 3 versions, mild steel (requires high temp painting once assembled), aluminized steel and stainless steel. The mild and aluminzed steel kits will utilize an aluminized muffler and resonator. The stainless kits will be all stainless steel including hangers with the exception of the 3 flanges which will be mild steel. Stainless steel flanges may be made available in the future at an additional cost.

The adjustable B pipe used on RStoR's system will be an option to the system. All parts will be identified on an installation drawing with instructions. Please email me for pricing.

Sure David, I might have a couple $ left over after the EXPO trip.
In the mean time the B-pipe fix and Comptech muffler will have to do.
I'll be down that way for the dyno day this weekend. Ed Pipala

That's an esp. good deal when you consider that the "premier" names cost like 1,000 bucks.

If I knew how to build **** I would buy one

As I stated before I am interested. Email me and post the Prices but if they are like the ones that Boba posted with the $550. or so for a full SS cat bachk then I am IN!

I'll talk to my friend and see if he wants to help me weld but I'm really busy at work now or maybe I'll just wait till the whole setup is Bolt-On! You are doing one hell of a job with these headers and exhaust systems and Thumbs UP to you!!!

I did order a Spoon header but will certainly consider very strongly your catback!!! I do however want to see a dyno plot. Not that I don't trust you but I want to see results before I get anything.

Good luck with everything,

A.

Boba's prices are correct and if you buy a cat with the system there is a discount on the cat. Please email me for the discount pricing.

Kakimoto Racing from Japan have a exhaust called the Kakimoto R that have a 70mm (2.75") b-pipe for the ITR.

But it is a fully stainless steel cat back from Japan, it cost around $700USD.
It will not be a direct bolt on, since the cat in Japan is shorter, but if you are running a 2.5" header, you won't be running a factory cat anyways, so all you have to do is cut your highflow cat or the test pipe of have it fit.

monkey_truckR

The exhaust is louder than stock, but not excessive. It has a deep idle tone and pretty much stays that way during acceleration. It doesn't have that raspy tone that N1 style cans have.

Since Boba, Zygspeed, BlackR, and a few others will see/hear it for the first time this weekend, maybe they can give you a more unbiased opinion.

I will see/hear it this weekend.
I may go with that muffler... my 5Zigen Border 304 Max got awfully loud w/ cams.
So i may be in the market for a new muffler to go with my 2.5" b-pipe.
See ya there Chris......im sure you will hear me and Nab20c5 from a mile away....ehehe.

Sounds like a great alternative to the higher priced after-market cat back options currently available. Quick question, though: Are you building these exhausts for ITRs only? I'm wondering if you have plans to make exhausts for GS-R sedans.... Thanks.

There's only about 2" difference in the wheelbase which I would think you could make up in the B pipe length, so I guess it would work for you, but I haven't stuck my head under a sedan to see if anything else is different.

SMSP: I agree. My guess is that the only difference would be in the length of the B pipe. From what I can tell, manufactureres of axel-back systems do not have two different part #s for hatchback and sedans, which leads me to believe that the axelback specs are no different between the HB and sedan. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong about this...

Rstor's exhaust compared to stock is louder, but not "Oh my God, look at that weedwhacker on wheels" most of us have heard. It DOES sound good and there is a noticeable difference when the vtec kicks in... the exhaust comes alive then soundwise. I forgot btwn what rpms... but there is a lil blurp, wheez that I didnt like when he's on it full throttle from a stop.

My honest opinion.

I think it's a better exhaust than most I have heard and its even better that his own sweat & time went into building this thing. Makes you feel better about it and you sure do appreciate it more.

Pete

Hi Guys, thanks for the good hospitality and beer!
Sorry I didn't stick around this morning but I was burning daylight.
I'm at work in Alexandria to pick up the stock computer and more spares,
but will be working on the A/C tomorrow morning with a stone cold car in my Mom's garage.

Oh, yeah. One more thing. Where was that Bubba guy this weekend?

Boba-Fett had a very good reason for missing the weekend of events. I'm sure he'll let everyone know in the morning.
