Cold Air w/ bypass valve

Not really a big difference in increased power.

Try that new AEM V2. Great power gains. But to answer your question, a cold air intake is better.

Cold Air Intake with no By pass Valve, I have heard to many bad things about them, and they kind of ruin a cold air intake, because they suck the hot air in through the by pass, but that is just what I think.

the cai is hardly any different from a short ram..it all depends on what time of driving you'll be doing..in my opinion, i feel that cai are for use on the track...it get dirty and all...like they say, it hardly makes a difference in HP...and theres also a big difference in price

I have the CAI, can't compare directly because I haven't experienced the Short Ram. I'd prefer the CAI because colder air is better then warm, and here in prone-to-flooding Houston, I still haven't had a problem with water ingestion. My car is lowered to boot. You'd have to be driving through some very deep water to get hydrolock, so I'm not convinced the bypass is really neccessary.

Short Ram : better throttle response, cleaner filter and no chance of hydro-lock.

CAI : Slightly better power from colder air.

I'll stick with the SR.

the bypass valve stays completely shut off until the filter is submerged or something obstructs it to the point the vacuum of the engine has to open the bypass valve....they don't open for any other reason

Honestly, a short-ram with a divider is 10x better than a CAI. Why? Because not only are you paying more for the intake, but you're also more prone to hydrolocking the motor. I've got a home-made plastic divider on my 3" short ram and I have to say I don't miss out on the cold air, I just get it a different way.

i say that there is not a difference. yah you are getting denser air wid the old air intake since it has direct contact to the cold air. but once it reaches the intake manifold u get the same air density u would if u had a short ram. so i say either works.
