Awesome weekend at CMP - Porsche Owners Club track event
Props to Zsolt and Ewen for meeting up with me at Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, SC!!! Kick-a$$ weekend - sorry about your brake, Zsolt - save that damn caliper/rotor combo.
Potentially 4 1/2 hours of track time PER DAY - the weather held out this weekend, overcast but no real rain
Safe, fun event with more track time than you handle - $200 for the weekend (plus $60 for POC membership)
http://www.pocse.us for more info - upcoming this year Roebling Road and Barber (brand new track in Alabama)!! Super nice people, even tolerate us Honda/Acura folks really well and Jim Frazier of POC offered an open invite to the Honda-tech track junkies out there that are looking for lots of track time...
Usual turnout for these events is only 40-60 cars total, so there's plenty of room.
VIR is still the best track out there IMHO, but I had a total blast at CMP this weekend.
BTW, Cobalt's new GT-R Spec.VR pads ROCK!!!! Thanks Andie Lin!!! When an RSX-S is outbraking Porsche Turbos and Corvette Z06's (and just about everything else out there) at turn 11 at CMP, you know this product is just awesome!!!

Yea .. awesome weekend at CMP (despite me breaking more stuff on the car in 1/2 a day then I have *EVER* in the 3 years I have been going to track! Karl I have a price on your head!
) When I post pics of my front caliper, you guys are going to shat!
A great time was had by all and it was cool to hang out with Adam. You can drive that RSX! If you guys get a chance to go to a POC event, I would jump on it. Great guys and tons of track time. The guy running it, Jim Frazer, came out and put on the event for us despite illness his family and a very small grid which meant he had to personally cover the several thousand dollar shortfall!!
Phatty, no ITS Prelude. Adam, Ewan and I were the the only ones flying the Honda Flag.

Yeah, they really are a very fun group to do a school with and despite the name, very welcoming to anything from Type Rs to a .... CL Type S
Wouldn't make it your first event
but the seat time and the guys that come out are great (from my two trips to CMP with POC). When I went before (this is a few years ago) they had racers as instructors so the instruction was quite different.
Good to see they still put on a good event.

Was there a late 70s yellow 911 there (kinda vague, i know
). It would of been pretty loud as well. Corbeau Forza seats in it. He is a local guy here that has heads up a lot of porsche events here, i believe he told me he was going there. He also mentioned the track in Ala as well. I'm suppose to do a couple of events w/ him this year if i ever get my car in 1 piece. O yeah, his name is Jim Marsh, his daughter may have been driving his car.

****, thanks for the POC link! I am printing this beast out and sending it in ASAP. Looks like an amazing event. If anyone wants to split a room at the Red Roof Inn in Pooler let me know.
This really was a great weekend -- I'd highly recommend POC events to anyone interested in getting (HPDE) track time. I think they had the best schedule control I've ever seen at an event -- the only time they deviated from the schedule was to allow the green/solo group more time when they had an E46 M3 go off on 8 (no damage!), costing them 15 minutes of their run group. ... and I think they cut into the other groups runtime because they had 5.5 hours of track time that day!
Adam, It was great to meet you again and have some more time to get to know you. Thanks for the ride and the instruction. I watched and timed some of my videos from this weekend, before you sat with me I was in the 2:02 - 2:04 range, and I timed a lap where we caught the silver M3 as a 1:59! [Ed: 1:59 isn't fast for a lot of you, but it is for me thankyouverymuch
] The best thing is since we didn't use communicators, I was able to get the entire conversation on tape -- I guarantee I'll be watching that tape before every CMP event I go to from here on out. Really exceptional instructor'ing.
I didn't see an older model yellow 911, but I did see one I thought was "tan", so that might have been it. It was in run group (solo) and I saw it also in Zsolts red group (running much faster), so I think it must have had two drivers that weekend. Dunno if that was them.
There was a SWEET GT2 911 running on Saturday and a wicked fast red turbo 911.
I think this was my 12th HPDE (in 4 years) and I was getting a little bummed because before this event I couldn't keep any consistency. All my previous instructors had SO much work to do with me, they didn't have time to start tweaking my line. Well this weekend really gave me the time in car to calm down and to get the seat time I needed to be consistent. I am SO happy I went this weekend!!!
-Ewan
P.S. Also, I got to use the new Cobalts as well this weekend. They are absolutely great pads. I haven't checked the wear since Sat, but they held up well and were really consistent and easily managable. I'm now a convert from the Brembo rotors/Hawk Blues-front/Porterfield R4 rears combo. Good product Andie!

As I said earlier, I am looking intro the POC event @ RR June 28th. The flyer says "at least 2 hours of track time." What was your experience this past weekend, per group?

CONSISTENT 30 minute sessions. Not 17 minutes, not 25 minutes, 29.5 minutes!
If I didn't have something already planned, I'd go in a heartbeat. If you do go, be sure to tell Jim that you heard good things about his club -- he is one of the REALLY good people in this sport.

You can count on having too much track time.
You can count on having too much track time.
Jim Frazier/POC club has an event at Roebling Road next month, June 28 & 29th. Hope some of you can make it.
Jim also has a weekend reserved at Barber, the new Alabama track! This event is on Nov.8 & 9th. Y'all will luv the new Barber track... so... make your reservations early!
one of the things POC will often do is later in the day combine Green/Blue Groups (beginner/intermediate) and combine Yellow/Red Groups (advanced/Instructor/Race), so the 1/2 hour sessions become like 1 hour sessions!
Too cool - you can run for 25 minutes, come in to cool things down, then go right back out when you're ready for another 25 minutes or so...
POC Southeast
Plus Jim Frazier is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet!
