Lateral gas ports in CP Pistons
CP Pistons are called the most accurate piston made. All ring lands are measured by lasers to insure they are dead flat. There is no extra flat ring land charge. In fact most manufacturers can't even offer this option. Ring seal is made up of two components. One is accomplished between the ring and the cylinder wall. This is what most people think of. But there is another area that is of equal importance. It is between the ring land and the ring. If this is not perfect, compression will leak at that point. It MUST be perfectly flat. Also check how little of the piston actually touches the wall.

Now check the lateral gas port OPTION (see arrow). This allows pressure going down the side of the pistons to slide behind the upper ring to actually push the ring harder against the wall for better ring seal. Compression ratios are dead nuts on plus there are many other reinforcements built into the forgings that give it extra strength.
This is a piston that you do not have to give to your machinist to do a bore job. If you buy an 83mm piston, your machinist bores the block to EXACTLY 83mm and the clearance is built into the piston at the time it is made.

I don't think you would want them on the street because they would probably wear out quickly. For our race motor, they will seal for a longer period of time and give a stronger seal.

Good stuff earl, i was tryin to talk my friend into gettin these pistons for his ca18det. I was quoted about 700 for a set of pistons. Nice looking set of pistons you got there!

Wow. Post some specs of the CA when/if he/she is done with the motor.

It's .0030. Wow, I can't believe it's built into the piston already...that's awesome.
What about finish honing tho? Take 81.5mm for example. Wouldn't you have it bored to 3.206" Then finish honed to 3.209? I think my #s are right, Im not at home. I'm taking an LS Customer Block to the machinist on monday to be machined...with some 12.5:1 CPs. Good thing I saw this thread...
