Need help working with bondo
Hey guys I am going to be sanding and primering my car. I have to do it because im sick of this gheto mix and match parts on my car I would rather have it all one color of primer.
My question is, I have never used primer before, and I have a dent in the back that I want to take care of at the same time .. do I just sand it down to bare metal and then apply the bondo and sand down untill it is smooth with the rest of the car correct ? are there any links that will give me an explination on how to do this thanks
P.S. I plan on having everything redone by a pro .. this is just a temp fix

Re: Need help working with bondo (Stryker908)
here is a picture of my car, If you look close you can see the diffrent colors in the paint look by the back of the door. The whole front end has been replaced with one from a silver car (you cant tell from the pictures but they whole front is dented and creased it was not fixable)
Also can you use bondo to shave the side moldings ?

i dont remember the size dent on the rear of the car, but if it's small (door ding) you can just sand it down, and bondo it in, but if it's a larger dent, you'll want to pull/push the dent out as smooth as possible, then use bondo to finish it up.
As for the moldings, bondo to shave moldings with no other work is a bad idea. It'll end up cracking and look like crap.

i dont recommend spraying your car with those rattle cans....it might not be compatible with your new paint job.
as for the bodywork, sand to bare metal beyond the dent and clean it well before applying bodyfiller. sand with 40grit to roughly shape the filler. finish it off with 80, then 120(or 150). sand down the surrounding paint to get rid of sand scratches with 120/150 then primer.
the whole car should be sanded with 500-600 grit.

do not use rattle can primer. It does not contain lead and will absorb 200% of its own weight in moisture.
If anything, rent a compressor and buy a cheap spray gun from Craftsman, with some urethane primer, and seal it up....

"urethane primer SURFACER" is a good route. put on about 2-3 coats so when its time to paint your car with color, just block sand that to get out slight waves that you might have. Get a HVLP gravity feed gun, this will help save paint needed to spray because it doesnt create a lot of overspray. And make sure you get an aircompressor that's up to the task(gallons, HP, CFM's)
