Anyone have a lead on a set of Toyo RA-1s in 205/50/15?
I've looked, then looked again, then looked some more to no avail.
Any info would be very much appreciated.

who would like to have a set for Beaverun if possible, but has been unable to find any for the past 3 weeks.

If you want new ones, call appalachian race tire and have them ship right out to you.
If you want used ones, you need to go to the SARRC/MARRS race at VIR this weekend (i think) and skulk around near the Appalachian trailer saying "are these throw aways?" all weekend.
Good luck.

Please tell me were NOT having supply issues!!!!!!!!
Wait until were ALL on the same tire and size... I see problems. I wonder if National discussed this with Toyo prior to 'the deal'??????????????????
Jason, Keep us posted and the TireRack has other brands in stock.
John- Everyone already knows my issue with this.

Yeah. Thanks for the suggestions above. However, none of the places listed have them.
This sucks, and has been sucking for a month.

LOL, just got off the phone with Toyo. Supply sucks, and service sucks too!

Been there, done that. Would like to take advantage of the gearing in my car.
Spoke to Rodney. He doesn't have them either.

Time to hit the GFCP and order up a new FD!
I did the math and you are only looking at a 3.7% loss vs 225/45 and a 3.3% loss vs 205/50. Really not that bad. With GSR gearing, it is about 1.3 MPH taller in 1st, 2.3 in 2nd, 3.2 in 3rd, and 4.2 in 4th. I will take the 3.3% loss and get more rubber to the ground. With a 4.7 ot 4.9 FD, it is all moot anyway.

Wow, supply issues. This is exactly why I went to Hoosiers and left Kumho. When no one in the entire UNITED STATES had Kumhos in my size, and did not expect to have any for MONTHS, it was a no-brainer. I really and truly hope this does not become a point of soreness in my life AGAIN next year.
I guess the moral of this story is WHEN the do come available in your size, buy up all of them that you can afford so you have your own freakin' inventory. You can always resell them with a rediculous mark-up to some unlucky ECHC bastard who has corded his tires and can't get any to replace them!
Weeeeeeee!

I just snagged a set of 225/50/15 used once of Ebay for 400$.. Got them in, and look brand new.. Like I say, Ebay is your friend..
Really trying NOT to get Pissed-off.
Well isn't this a big cluster-F!!!
Great job TOYO, make every series use your tire then RUN OUT of them!!!!!!!!!!!
Hell..... It's only May. Nobody races in May, we don't need no stinking tires! Maybe I can beg some used, tired, POS tires from the pro teams because NO ONE has new ones in my size.??????????????? Bowie is right but should we have too?
Mike@ Vilven Tire said "No one in the country has them (205/50/15's) "Mike also stated, " they are on a boat somewhere in the Pacific and 'could' be here in three weeks."
I called 1010 in CANADA and they have nine sets left.
They said "we have a different supplier than you guys in the States, that is why were not out yet". He also said, "I plan on being SOLD OUT by the weekend with all the calls I'm getting". The guy then goes on to say, "you do understand that these are full tread and we do not shave them". GREAT. Cancel my order.
NICE! Manditory tires RULES!
New tricks to the spec-tire crap.
1. Horde your own supply.
2. Keep your supplier SECRET!
3. Modify your car to use an odd-ball size.

App Tire doesn't shave tires at the track - they also no longer support NASA race weekends as far as I know. They did at one point, another tire seller came out to help, he is not supporting these races this year either (they don't make any significant profit on Toyos from my understanding). Someone said late last year the lack of trackside tire support was a reaction from the chants for spec tire (Toyo in particular).

What? you mean spec tire, trackside support/sales, constant supply, and the cheapest price in the country are too much to ask for?
- luckily, you're seeing the issues with Toyo's now and can be prepared for next year should the agreement stay the same. Seems like there really should be some type of non-availability contingency plan.

Which would render a spec tire agreement useless in the first place.
"Oh sorry.. since our spec supplier cant give you the tires we made you run, you get to go buy more tires of another brand to run for one race!"
I'd sit out a race before I did that.

I think some people overestimate the effect on vendors/manufacturers by having a relatively small series use a "spec" tire - especially since I doubt there are any economies of scale using a spec tire without a spec size/spec tread depth/spec source.

Adam,
Normally I would agree with you, but it's more than just one series. 205/50-15 is the size for SM also. Lotsa people running those. Not to mention that there are plenty of people running 15 inch wheels out there who run the toyos at track weekends because the last a long time and are sticky.
It's one of the most popular sizes in any make tire. Street wheel or otherwise. And considering the poor selection that they have in 13 inch tires, I was planning on going to this size myself.
--Chris, who will be running Toyos next year, though it looks like it will be the FZ-4, not the RA-1...

Yes, but non-availability would have already done that. I'm not necessarily proposing that if JohnW were to secretly buy up the last 10 sets (and burn them) that he'd be allowed to run Hoosiers because RA-1's were sold out. Actually, I can't think of any worthwhile solution. Sitting out a race is certainly not worthwhile either though.
Again, I have to think that Toyo's money would be better spent on their distribution network than on their attempt to buy customers.

Chris, that's my point exactly. If the entire series was specified to use a 205/50-15 tire, the whole "spec" tire thing makes sense (from a tire vendor support case as well as the case for "spec" in the first place - I won't get into my feeling on the idea of two H4 cars; one running "spec" 15" tire vs. another running a "spec" 14" tire). If the series had "one" spec tire then there are a ton of economies of scale from vendor support a la SM - this is not the case here - that is my point on other's overestimation of the import of this (fragmented wheel size) group (a la the countless laments "why doesn't Toyo make a tire my size?" - be that 13" or 16" rim size).
