I would go with a B18 *gsr* or ITR swap over a prelude. reason being the lude is a fat pig and your car will handel like **** and you shocks and brakes will die out fast but if the car is for dragg only it wont be to bad but the B18 can be made into a NA power house and your car will still handel like a champ.

just my .02

I dont see why you would call a lude a fat pig??Sure, its heavier, but of course,i wouldnt expect anyone to modify their car to go faster and not worry about the suspension....Im using skunk coilovers for a integra,my handling is good for it having the extra weight up front. And of course, the brakes...i would upgrade the brakes on a cx regardless of what b or h-series motor he would use.I guess if he were to autocross it,then maybe a b-series motor will do,but straight line speed, hands down an h22a will do better.

All I'm gonna say is that a B18C swap will be way better and you will be a lot happier with it than a H22, too many problems with the 2.2 and I bet you the 1.8 will be faster, thats my advice.

Wow... never ceases to amaze me with posts like these. I've had first hand personal experience with both B-series Civic and H-series Civic, both on the drag strip and on the road course. Both have their pros and cons. As for the car handling like ****, that's a classic thing I always here from those who have not actually seen one, or driven one on the road course. Read about my H22 Civic on the road course.... this is a year ago: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=183552 Morale here, don't believe everything that you hear about H22 swaps being a "bad" swap.... if you've driven one, then you'll know why people want to do it.

What problems are you talking about, exactly?

And how do you know he will be happier with the GSR swap?

And how exactly would the GSR be faster. Stock for stock swap with the same driver and the H22 hatch would be quicker.

Congratulations. You get a nice big .

I think posts like this are more annoying than the guy above you WhO tYpEs LiKe DiS.

Obviously you have never driven/ridden in a Lude powered Civic, and if you did, the person probably has crappy suspension.

And the guy who made this post, just read a lot of posts, and use the search button. It really helps. You will learn a lot of information on this site, so just read a lot and find out the pros and cons on both motors, and make a decision.

I don't have any personal experience on the matter. However, when I spoke with Steve, at hmotorsonline about this same thing, he told me this. The H22 is great for going in a straight line, but if you ever want to auto-x the car, the weight distribution WILL be off, no matter what you do with your suspension. That being said, I would use the 'search' button to read up on some of the informative debates on this very topic which have popped up over time.

I'm a little biased towards the H22, since I just finished my swap. I think the main reason people talk trash about that swap is that they're afraid of it. In all honesty, mine went a lot smoother than some of the B-series swaps I've done. If you do your research, and you have everything ready to go it'll run smooth as hell. either way, you're gonna get a kick *** car. Just do as you please, not what everyone else tells you is better.

Heh... looks like Steve at HMO should take a drive in a H22 Civic and see how it really feels. With some Teins on a Civic (even some shitty Matrix full-coilovers), the car actually handles damn good around some turns when I push it hard. Only thing that I can recommend.... if you have drum brakes in the back, upgrade them to rear disc. Reason being, the drums like to lock up easily when you hit the brakes hard (discs never did when I swapped them out... that and using a 40/40 prop valve) and when you're turning and the rear brakes lock up, your *** end swings out and you will spin out.

After driving on the road course with a H22 Civic, and then with an ITR Civic, I liked the H22 because I could leave the car in 3rd gear throughout the entire track, even on tight turns dropping to less than 1500 rpms, giving it gas, and watching it pull out with ease all the way up to 8000 ITR is fun because I could rev it out to 9000 (not stock) and keep it in the power range of 6000-9000 on the course. Both are fun, both are fast... all depends on what you like.
