Well, I finally stopped using Mobil 1
I used Castrol Syntec last oil change, and despite running the car hard over the weekend, and the past couple of days, I can detect no oil burned. I think that the romance between Mobil 1 and myself is now over
Well WTF, how did I miss the who Mobil1 = burning oil, ****? My R has been burning since I bought it. I'd gladly switch if I thought that would fix the problem.

The owner's manual specifies only 5W30 below freezing, and prefers 5W30 above freezing, too.
Just a question - under high RPMs, isn’t some oil consumption normal regardless of what brand.... Also, I remember reading somewhere that Castrol Synthetic has a high ash content....
I have run alot of different oils im my bike, including castrol syntec. The first( and only) time I ever put it in, I sarted my bike and went for a short ride. It was very short cause my motor made more noise then I had ever heard out of it. I only went 5 miles, and turned around and went home to check the level, it was fine. so I dumped it for royal purple, and have never ran it again in anything
I changed to Castrol syntec last oil change as well... 1700 miles so far and not a drip burned (yay!)- compared to the 3/4 quart I was burning every 3000 miles of Mobil 1

Good swapped too. When i was on Mobile 1, i burned oil fast as all hell. I switched to Castrol Syntec 5w-30 and the smoothness felt the same. I doubt i'd feel any difference cause its so small but the oil wasn't burning as fast. I heard Castrol also had the best flashpoint ratings. I think it ranked second vs. Mobil 1 which ranked 6th i think. What would the advantage be if i ran 10w-30? I ran 10w-30 and i didn't feel too much of a difference power wise but i think my gas mileage went up.
Can anyone out there confirm that?

not to hijack or anything but i used to use mobil 1 and i am now using the valvoline synthetic...how would you guys compare the castrol to the valvoline
I wonder whats in it that causes it not to burn as bad. Probably something that will gum everything up, and screw you engines all up

10W30 has less addidtives so I'd rather run that if you had to run mixed weight. Maybe in the north during winter I'd do 5W-30.. but otherwise..

My friends and me using Castrol Synthec RS Racing 10W60 on track.
Oil temp is a little bit higher but we burn almost no oil...
5W30 is for street application, I think... It`s too thin and I`d had no peace of mind with a viscosity of only 30 on track
Castrol
works for me

I know its pricey but I am loving Red Line synthetic. One plus is that I don't have to change my oil as often

Does oil such as Red Line and/or Amsoil burn up as fast as Mobil 1?
