Default B16A vs. B18B

Which one is faster? I've been wondering the samething myself for sometime now. Well last night was a good time to find out. At an elevation of 1324 feet on a 60 degree day with a barometric pressure of about 30 bar. Let me run down the details:

92 Civic DX (Hatchback)
93 B16A
13 inch steelies
Stock exhaust
Weight with driver 2148
Full interior 1/2 tank of gas

vs

93 Civic CX
95 B18B
16 inch rota slipstreams
3 inch exhaust (turbo time)
Weight with driver 2000
Full interior 1/2 tank gas

Best times for both

92 Civic DX Hatch (15.4 at 89.XX mph) I don't remember his exact mph because I don't have his fastest slip.
93 Civic CX (15.2 at 90.68mph

The CX won because

His car weighed less
He had an exhaust
And he had better wheels and tires

B16a should be faster assuming everything else is equal. The times could have been attributed to a number of other factors.

He never said what tires he was running. Plus the 3" exhaust on a mostly stock B18 should have hurt performance if anything.

You're right, and my clutch is TOAST. So that balances it out.

:cough:BULLSHIT!:cough:

Yeah full interior with 1/2 a tank of gas, but it weighs 2000 with driver?

I have a completely stripped 1992 CX and with 1/4 a tank of gas it weighed 2040lbs. w/o me in it. Now I could still remove my bumper bars, get a c/f hood and a non-airbag steeing wheel (airbag ECU is already removed), and I have rear discs and a rear swaybar, but still a 1/2 tank of gas and full interior doesn't add up to 2000lbs. with driver for a 1992 CX even with rear drums and some other stuff unless you forgot to mention fiberglass doors, hatch, and some lexan.

So wait a second which is it then? You just posted this in another thread:

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote"> weighed mine yesterday at the track. 2149 with a driver and passenger, b18b swap, 1/4 tank of gas and 16 inch rota slipstreams. It came out to be 2149 pounds full interior, minus the people it would have been 1900 even. Oh yeah it's a 93 CX</TD></TR></TABLE>

Well which is it? Your car weighs 1900lbs. or what?

That scale is just simply WRONG. No way in hell your full interior CX is 1900lbs.

I don't like it when people post different specs in different threads man. Seems like you're trying to make up excuses as to why you lost to an LS swap in this thread, and then it seems to me like you're just trying to brag about how incredibly light your car is in the other thread about 1992 Civic weights.

Just be honest and nobody will bust on you around here bro.

Yeah ur weights are both bullshit. This is a stupid comparison to begin with.. you dont "balance out" one cars short coming with the other. Your B16a beat his B18b but thats where it ends. This doesnt tell us anything about which swap is faster over all.

Dude I have the 93 CX, We weighed them. The scale may be inaccurate, but that's what it stated. In the other thread I had a passenger. It was weighed more than once

I know what I saw on the scale, I'm not blind, next time I go up, I will take pictures of the weight.

I don't get where the confusion is. I have the 93 CX with the LS, my roommate has the 92 DX hatch with the SiR

No excuses, no bull ****, the LS hatch won. Fastest 1/4 mile fastest trap. That's all she wrote. I OWN THE LS HATCH.

Haha, dont be ignorant. Your scale is way off bro, simple as that. Honda rated the '92 CX hatchs at about 2090lbs w/o anyone in 'em. You added a heavier engine and yourself. You are probably around 2300 at this point. Dont argue that point, you cant possibly win.

Moving on, there are way too many extranious variables to make a valid comparison; ur experience with the engines dont tell us anything about which one is actually faster. Glad ya won though.

The scale is probably off. I was just stating the known variables that I did have values for. Then everyone tries to descredit them. I didn't out right state that the LS was faster than the SiR, now did I? I stated from my experience what had happened.

I think the argument over b16a vs b18b is gay now...both motors are too closely similar to each other performance wise to be able to compare which one is better or faster. It all boils down to driver and conditions. A b18c vs b16a is a much better comparison or a b18c vs b18b is a much better comparison. You can easily distinguish those motors apart..but a b18b vs b16a..thats really hard to distinguish which one is better than the other...I'd say they are very evenly matched..soo evenly that its impossible to say which one is better than the other.

ptran13:

My bad for the mix up on you owning the B18B.

Still that scale is definately off.

As far as your race against the B16A goes, good show. Sure you beat him and all, but honestly what you did isn't necessarily the norm.

Two brothers in my area (both friends of mine) had 1992 DX with B16A second gen and 1994 CX with B20 w/Skunk2 manifold respectively and the B16A pulls on the B20 every time they ran. Both cars had similiar mods and both were in good running form.

The B16A rolled 152whp on the dyno and the B20 has yet to go.

I really wish somebody had one car and both motors at their disposal. Then maybe we could finally put an end to this B16a vs B18b discussion...

I tried doing a search about 8 months ago looking for comparisons, I couldn't find any hard numbers. I was undecided as to which motor to go with, now this is just another source as to how close they really are.

ok heres a comparison.
me-95 dx coupe b18b-I/E/clutch-14.7 best time
pau- 93 vx b18b-I/E-15.0 best time
jan-93cx hatch b16a3-I/E/JDM gsr ecu-14.9 best
glenn-98 dx hatch-b16a3-I/E/H/clutch-15.3 best

my car weighed more than jan's car and pulled i better times and he has more track time than me. b18b wins
glenn's car weighs more than pau's car because its a show car but still has moer mods and probably put more power down to the ground pau's b18b wins

b18b i always wanted to race jan's hatchback but i was 4 months too late he totaled his car when a lady cut him off in the rain. the b16 pulled hard and had alot of potential. sometimes i also think its not just the driver but its the motor u get. some motors pull harder than others do. thats IMO on this
someone with a b16 coupe race me we'll find out I/E/clutch imma down ej6 body
