ECU Code 36 (wtf?)
OBD-1 JDM motor, was gonna replace the O2 sensor today cause a friend was kind enough to hook me up.
Checked for codes and its the O2 sensor heater (41) i knew about this one ,
and these were the surprises... Knock sensor (23), and code 36. I don't know what code 36 is, friend doesn't, Hybridgarage doesn't, and Honda dealer didn't even know.
Any help?
Also, I've been able to go in VTEC just fine for the past week... I thought a knock sensor code prevented it from engaging...
Yes, I counted the blinks correctly several times, and I'm still at a loss...

fix all of your problems and reset the ecu. take the neg battery off for like mintue or take the ecu fuse out. see if that works. i have gotten codes before and nobody knows but resetting the ecu took them out
Bump, why would I be able to hit VTEC with a knock sensor code?
I suppose code 36 is really 45, but I counted it like 20times... don't really know how to fix running too lean/rich, would a tuneup help. I can't really afford any tool mgmt right now.

Have a spare ECU? The service manual says "if code indicated is not listed above, verify the code. If the code indicated is not listed above, replace the ECU." This is reffering to a 92 Si, but even that has no listing for a code 36.
Nope, I don't have a spare ECU and I suppose that would run me a pretty penny...
I can get the knock sensor and O2 sensor fixed, and maybe if I reset the ECU the other code will go away, or I'll be able to pull one that actually makes sense.

if you are running too lean/rich just adjust your distributor, cant remember direction right off hand but someone should be able to help you out with that one. thats a quick fix to fix the too lean/rich problem. are you sure the car isnt out of time as well.
The car stopped throwing the knock sensor code, and I'm going to put this O2 sensor in tonight. I've watched it many times this afternoon, and its STILL throwing the code 36...

Maybe its something with the JDM ECU's.
I had the local shop, Hidden Performance, pull my codes. I was flashing knock and o2 sensor. They fixed those. In addition, I had the IAS and VTEC Oil Pressure codes that were NOT flashing. Once those were cleared up, the 36 went away and I don't have to stare at an orange light anymore. Good luck!
