Default ITB's on a built dohc zc.....

alright, what do you guys think about this stupid idea.....its one that i'm really thinking of pursueing....just because no-one has done it. fully built zc.....sleeved, higher comp pistons, eagle rods, reground cams, PP head, and honda cbr929rr itb's on a custom manifold. if i run a zdyne secu would i be able to get this creation to idle in a stable manner and be a semi-reliable street/race car? i really just wanna do something strange yet make a lot of power. where i come from, everybody builds b series motors, but i think an NA dohc would be pretty fun and really sweet......give me your opinions......thanks

I had this crazy idea back in the day... Crazy ZC woth carbs, high compression, wild cams, etc... glad I didn't do it. IMO it wouldn't be worth it to me. The dollar to HP ratio wasn't great. This is not to say it can't be done. I know someone a long time ago who had a ZC with dual 40mm carbs, crazy *** cam, and 13-1 CR. He was putting down 170whp. Wild and wacky... but far easier, cheaper, and more streetable w/ a B series swap. If you have the time and money tho, go for it. HTH

If you have a nice wad of cash and want to be crazy, sure go for it. The only things about itb's are they are really expensive, u have to tune them for HOURS to get them to idle right. Those are the big things. Would u rather follow the crowd and be fast or be different, broke and slower than u could be. I dont know. It just doesnt seem worth it to me but what do i know. Good luck with whichever route u choose.

I know a guy that built ITBs for his ZC crx, I'll forward this post to him.

CBR 954RR ITB's on my ZC

http://www.slebidia.addr.com/itb.htm

I mainly did it to see if I could. Building a decent bottom end when I get some more cash. Oh and yes tuning has been a bitch so far, but I'm up to 26 mpg right now.

very nice man. i am pretty sure i wanna run a cbr929rr throttle body setup, welded to a chopped off zc manifold(not sure about that part though), and i'll be using the factory ecu for now, the motors not built yet, but with any luck it will be this summer...if i stick to this plan. what kind of performance are you getting with the factory bottom end?

You will not be able to run a factory ECU. Running ITB's severly changes the vacuum that the MAP sensor will see. The ECU has to be at least remapped. normal driving result to vacuum sitting between 4 inches and 1 inch compared to the 15-21 inches. You loose alot of resolution from the ECU. A serious aftermarket computer is the only real way to run it. I'm running a Zdyne Gold right now but some Ghettodyne hacking is in the works. Just waiting on parts right now.

Parformance wise its hard to tell. this bottem end is not working. cyls 2 and 3 are 35-40 psi lower than 1 and 4. Overall though I think this will do well with a high comp bottom end and the cams I have. We'll see.

yeah......i figured things would be sketchy with the stock ecu.....but i dunno....i would really like to run a ghettodyne, ive been doin some research on it lately. it looks like a really cool system. what kind of high compression pistons are you going to be using do you think? i heard somewhere that endyne makes some, but i dont know for sure about that....i'm pretty sure wiesco (spelling?) makes the endyne pistons..... does anybody think that the ls rods would stand up to some high revs and 11:1 comp. ratio? i was thinking of the ls cause they are cheap, lighter than aftermarket, and a boatload stronger than d series.

No point in revving if you're not making power up there. I have yet to dyno the ITB setup but I've taken my other ZC to 8000 for the past 4 years without problem. You're not gonna get lighter than stock D-series. Replace the rod bolts with ARPs and shotpeen the stock rods and keep it below 8000 and you should be fine. Stock rods are good to 200 hp good luck hitting that number on an NA ZC.

i havent ever revved my zc past about 7200, and it seems to still make some power up there, but nothing incredible.....so i plan on not revvin a built one up there, valvetrain components for zc's arent so prevalant so i'll probably be sticking with stock ones. do you recomend any particular brand piston for upping the compression on stock rods? i may shot peen the rods, who knows...this is the sort of stuff i need to figure out.

Slebidia: Any news on moving the points in maps to accomodate the peaky vacuum?
i know you were in the process of getting the vacuum log set up, how did that go?
another thing i have thought about was reverse engineer the vacuum system of the donor bike, they use MAP readings as well, perhaps they have a vacculog or a better fuel map for the vacuum range.

i am intrested in you work here... especially cause i see that one might be able to fit Flatside carbs on a zc like you have done with the itb.

i have been doing a lot of thinking about how to fool the factory ecu into reading the vaccum, the bike ITB's have some wild vaccum stuff, that stuff might be able to be modified. the setup i'm running this on is a strong factory bottom end zc with a head milled .022, cometic mls head gasket, reground exopseed cams, valve job, and a mild P/P and SRR cam gears. its not gonna idle very well as it is, so i really dont care too much about that, i just want it to go down the road in a respectable manner.

Are you going to regrind the cams? I have been reading about ghettodyne as well. Gotta keep this a secret.

imma keep this alive for a bit...
perhaps getting the ENTIRE assembly from the CBRs along with the airbox, vaccum log etc. can help build the vaccum needed for idle and full throttle? does anyone know if honda motorcycles use similar ECU architecture as the automotive ECUs? lifting the maps off the CBR and adjusting it for the PM6 ecu might help, or even use the CBR ECU altogether...
just mulling over ideas

I was actually in the process of trying the itbs myself. I have a buddy who can hook up with most of the components for cheap and I was wondering about the vaccum (which thankfully has been discussed). How well is the Endyne working?...I was thinking Ghettodyne but now I think the whole compatibility of the ECU's between the car and bike would be interesting to use, providing they are. Im gonna have to checkup more on that. Thanks for this post, I was about to start my own but this was here.....

alright, i've been talking to some of my honda/computer dork friends(i dont know computers for ****, but i can wrench) and a couple of them said they would help me out with trying the ghettodyne, so i think i'll be running that. hopefully i can get the ITB's set up before thanksgiving......but who knows. hopefully i'll get the new head/cams on. for the exospeed reground cams, i hope they work out good, i'll post as soon as i get them together. i just need a timing belt/some cam seals. can anybody give me some firsthand experience on ghettodyne?

what does getting a B16B have to do with individual throttle bodies?!

Too late, I dun did it already! Built *** zc crazy cams, Jun gears, power timing belt and an entire custom SS valve train and valves. 12.2:1 pistons eagle rods 8lb flywheel hybrid clutch P&P Head msd ignition, its been bored and stroked to a 1.7L Using a 94mm stoke and 76mm pistons... Too much to list, it hauls *** the couple of test runs but I am still breaking it in and I am having a Plethera of issues.
