It's a temperature switch that's screwed into the thermostat housing. It's not much bigger than its plug on the wiring harness...

When the water reaches a certain temperature, it switches on the fans. Its setpoint should be a little higher than normal, so the fans only run when you're idling with no air going thru the radiator. If its broke, it won't switch on the fans at all. But its not the only thing that can cause the fans not to work.

Maybe somebody will put up a picture... Unplug it, turn on your ignition, then jumper the terminals together in its wiring harness. If this makes the fans come on, then replace it. Otherwise, your problem is somewhere else like fuses or wiring.

Please someone tell me where the HELL is this mysterious fan switch located on the thermostat housing? As you can see I searched since this thread is 6 months old.

On my '95 it's screwed into the t-stat inlet housing. #12 in this picture. But Acura Carland shows the same picture for 2000.

I thought I was crazy for awhile. My picture is of the thermostat housing from a 91 Integra B18A1. Apparently the fan switch is not in the same place. Can someone tell me where its located? I cannot find it in the Helms whatsoever.

I gotta believe its in the Helm book somewhere. Cooling system overview? The section with the radiator fans? Maybe it's screwed into the radiator?

I don't know if this helps but on a '90 CRX Si I used to own, that fan switch was on the block, next to the oil filter. It was about the size of a spark plug and had a green plastic connector on brass, covered by black rubber, and took a 22mm socket if I'm not mistaken...
