New Suspension Install (Cusco) - lotsa pics
hey all. wanted to post some pics of my new suspension that was installed a few weeks ago.
Setup currently consists of:
-Cusco Comp-S coilovers (8kF/5kR)
-Cusco Front OS strut bar
-Cusco Rear CF strut bar
-ITR lower control arms
-ITR 22mm rear sway bar/BSQ
-Volk Racing SE37K 17x7.5 on Kumho 712 215/40/17
Review: ITR sway bar was on first for 2 months - I liked how the car was handling but the tires on my winter rims and the lack of a drop were negatively affecting how the car was handling. With the new coilovers and the wider tires, my car feels VERY well planted. The coilovers are not ride adjustable but they are very stiff and give a great daily driver/mild track feel. I've driven on Apex WS, GC/Tokicos on my previous two cars and I can say with certainty that this setup is far superior to the other two. I am still learning the suspension and will be for quite some time. It will be autocrossed next weekend for the first time, so I am looking forward to it. Altogether, I am extremely happy with the setup for a car that is 99% street driven and auto-x'ed/tracked on occasion. Comments/questions are welcomed.
Onto the pics:
Comparison between stock and Cusco:
ITR LCA's are required to mount JDM coilovers on non-ITR dc2's:
Hard at work:
Coilover, LCA, rear sway:
Here it is in place:
Rear carbon fiber strut bar:
Dremeled shock cover:
The finished product (itr front lip is getting painted):
Many thanks to mugen76 for helping me with the install, and to Leo @ JDMSpec Performance for access to all the Cusco parts.

price on the coilovers cant be disclosed due to a sponsorship i have with jdm spec performance. i DID pay for them however haha - i think i paid a little bit above cost. i think they retail for $1200-$1300. IM leo at ITRinEJ1 and let him know you're interested in andrew's suspension setup - i'm sure he'll give you a great price
ugly stuff in wheel wells is courtesy of chicago and its salty winter roads
i would not wish gc/tokico upon anyone. it was very bouncy and not stiff enough for my driving purposes. that was my first car so i modded suspension haphazardly without researching dampening characteristics and spring rates. people have been very happy with GC/Koni and custom spring rates...

Very nice looking, but what's all that ugly white stuff in your wheel wells?

Kentucky sucks
Are those Volks your rolling on? Cant really tell in that pic... But the car is looking good.
Your GSR can have the looks, but while your looking good. Im going to be looking beat to hell but flying by you(hahaha)
Are you doing Speedtrials AJ? I should have most of my crap by then and installed. Just gotta get that Chris N guy and Dave to help with the clutch and tranny install(hint hint)

if you dont mind me asking what made you decided on the cusco suspenion i am doing research now on suspension for my DC but havent be able to make my mind up....and thoes prices are in my range...so if you dont mind telling that would be great
again, thanks for all the props guys. full photoshoot and dyno plots to come in a few weeks after i'm properly tuned.
as for why i went with cusco, i'd tried apex'i, tein and GC coilovers and i was looking for something different. i talked with leo at jdmspec and discussed different possibilities for a good street/track setup... and it was either these, zeal b2 or mugen lowdowns. i liked the other suspension parts that cusco had, so i decided to stick with the same stuff all around. as far as i can tell (3 weeks of driving on this setup so far) i am not disappointed. the ride might be a bit harsh for some, but i like feeling the road. wheels stick to the road very well - and i can tell you that it has more to do with the suspension than it has to do with the tires, because i havent been too thrilled with the kumhos. but the dampers do a great job of keeping me well planted... and the width of my wheels certainly helps.
hope this was helpful..
