Default Carsound Cat Model for JDM header apps (53 vs 94)

so i ordered a carsound and they sent me the wrong app. instead of the oval series (94066/93506) that everyone seems to use, including SMSP:

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=405120

they sent me a 53006 series, which is still 2.5" in/out:

i've done a search with no luck. rather than go thru the trouble of sending my cat out and getting the oval one... i am wondering if anyone has knowledge as to which cat is freer flowing. is there anything WRONG with using the 53 series as opposed to the 94? will the 53 series cylinder style even fit? i was thinking of taking the one i've got (53006) to an exhaust shop and having them make the flanges so that it will bolt up. is there any reason for me NOT to do this?

my application: 00 GSR (same exhaust layout as ITRs, thats why i'm asking this here), JDM ITR 4-1 header, 2.25" comptech catback.

Thanks guys!

I run 53006 on my car. It is actually a one way cat that is better flowing from what I have read. It works and the round cat has a better failure rate than the ovals for breakage. I would say you got a blessing in disguise.

Note: I actually have a test pipe from SMSP now but this is in no way a reflection on the 53006.

i'm also running the 53006 on my car with the JDM 4-1 to the stock catback.
I've had it on about 2 months now and have had 4 CELs (code 67) 2 on track- 2 on street. Besides that no issues- no rattling . Gets a from me

Went to the Test pipe to run a wideband O2 in the second O2 bung without altering the signal.

I have a power FC and it doesn't use the second O2 so I have no CELs.

I was really pleased with the performance of the 53006. SMSP knows what he is doing. As long as it is 2.%" in and out the only worry is length.

I just read you have a GSR? Not sure you can use the 94xxx on the GSR due to the shorter length needed. At least from 1994-1999 (2000/2001 GSR is the same as the R and LS).

Jeff, you think it is the cat? Wanna try mine instead? It is just sitting in the garage.

yes, i can use either one because i have an 00 GSR, which shares the same exhaust layout as the R's - so your input was very valuable.

thanks again!

Just read code 67. A different 53006 MIGHT fix it but I would suspect a one way isn't doing enough. You are still welcome to mine. IF you are gonna throw a CEL anyway, run a test pipe

thanks trey,
I might take you up on that if it gets problematic, but as of now it's only been a total of 4 CELs in 2 months. Each time, i just reset it and it goes away. no biggie
