Default HELP! - Car feels and PROVED to be a lot slower :( what gives?

Hey,

I've had my GSR for about 4 months now.. Has always been somewhat of a FREAK gsr... lotta miles, beaten cars I'm not suppose to beat.. etc.. until recently..

Not long ago I raced my friends Focus SVT and beat him by about 2 car lengths, ran a JDM h22 in a 98 accord from a roll on i75 and beat him (was auto though)

BUT NOW..

I'm losing to LS' from 3rd gear rolls, I lost to the svt today by 4 car lenghts, I am getting NO PULL at anything over 6000 RPM's, my car actually gets SLOWER... I checked my compression and it's 215 across the boards, just like it was when I bought it.. Only thing I ever did was slightly misshift into 2nd and maybe that is catching up to me now? bent valves? out of spec? can that make that big a difference?

What about the fuel pump, dying out at high RPM's? fuel filter? I checked the plugs and they look fine.. /sigh!

If you had a bent valve your compression numbers would be off. It sounds like it may be time to do some maintenance. Here are a few things you should try:

Fuel Filter
Cap
Rotor
Wires
Oil Change
Plugs
PCV Valve (May as well do it all at once)

All those maintence things you guys mentioned, if any or all of that needs to be fixed can it really make that big a difference in my cars performance..

Far as valves, I'm not saying I bent any but maybe they're out of spec and need adjustments?

I am really starting to worry :/ - my car feels like it stands still top end.. Also... my vtec has actually gotten a helluva lot LOUDER recently.. could anything be wrong with the solenoid or anything like that

Rj,

How about you step off my thread with the anti street racing? I don't street race at all, but I do give my car some pedal like I'm sure you do to feel it out, or otherwise I'd be driving a SOHC civic. Please. I raced my friends SVT Focus when he first got it in an abandoned area at 3 am with no cars or people in sigh, not dangering any lives but our own. The reason I raced him tonight, again in an abandoned area was because hes actually the only real person I ever raced in my GSR..

I'm not going to drive 400 miles roundtrip to the track to see if my car is losing power, and there is no better way to compare it than with another car you BEAT at one point before.

I find it hard to believe there isnt a dragstrip within 400 miles of you. Or a local SCCA club that puts on autocross events.

Abandoned area..... what about the one time the area *isnt* abandoned and someone else gets hurt?

Yeah i "feel it out" when i go to the track. Summit Point, VIR, CMP, LMS so far. I also work on my driving techniques, all in a controlled environment.

Well RJ. I respect the fact you're that set on not racing on the street. Regardless of what you might think or say about people who race on the street, not all of us are irresponsible jerks who danger other peoples lives and their own - I don't think I have ever raced anybody in a populated area, by cars or people.. Don't think there is anything wrong with that, it's my own "controlled" enviornment least the best I could do other than spending 40 dollars on gas, driving 400 miles, and 15 dollars to take my car to the track and wait 3 hours for other people to run..

But let's not get into a flamefest, I respect your opinion on the matter but I'm just trying to see what is wrong with my car.

In the future, when trying to ascertain the problems causing the symptoms you describe, best to leave out references to street racing and car lengths........

Of course you can't see anyone, IT"S DARK OUT at 3am. Man that is even worse than doing it in the daylight- then you can see.

Maybe God broke your car to slow your A$$ down. We can only hope.

And don't tell me accidents don't happen- look at 50% of ppl's sig's on this page about a great girl from TN.

A few months ago, I was jacking around with the distributor (retarding and advancing to see effects on power/gas mileage) and I noticed that vtec was REALLY loud when the timing was retarded (I went a little overboard @ 10 degrees ). You might want to check that as well.

no power above 6k in a gsr......... sounds like the secondary intake runners arent opening up on your intake manifold, try this, have someone start your car while you look at the diaphrame that opens the secondarys up, when your friend starts the car the arm comming out of the bottom of the diaphrame should move , if it doesnt you have a vacumm leak or a bad solenoid.

jesus christ you guys are totally thread jacking this. Yes street racing is irresponsible, but man he was asking a different question on how to help his car, at least help him with that first before you bash on him for streetracing.

Yes, it can.

Advice is only useful if you actually use it.

sounds like the afformentioned remedies would fix the problem. compression says 215 across the board says no valve problems, if you had valve problems then you would here ticking, if not severe ticking at idle--from your valves...sounds like a fuel problem, replace the fuel filter if you have not already.

I work in Boca but actually live in Miami FL, so it's more than 40 mins away .

I hear the audible sound of the 2ndary's opening up... It just feels like my car is actually slower when I floor the gas...
I'm going to start some of the maintence work today...

Thanks for the advice!

I been thinking about the 2ndary's not opening up and that seems like it could be it... but I do hear the audible sound at 5800 but like I said earlier it's louder now for some reason, heh

Didn't you say your timing was advance to 22degrees. Did you get that retarded yet? Not saying that is the cause of the power loss but it's definatly out of spec and fixing it would eliminate a variable and help get to the bottom of your car's problem.
