Default FINALLY ! Throttle Body Spacer is on.

Finally got some free time and a decent day and got the throttle body spacer on.

Can I feel a difference ? Yes.

Enough to justify the money, time and grief ? I'm not sure, I think I got more out of drilling the bottom of my airbox full of 1" holes and that was free. It's hard to tell. After I drove it awhile with the spacer and stock air box I slipped the modified box on, then I could really feel a difference. I think you see more benefit with a modified air box or CAI than you do without which makes sense, if it really does improve air flow through the throttle body then you would definitely need to get more air to it. It does pull better from a dead stop and even with the stock box and a dirty air filter I used less throttle pulling long hills in 5th so it will stay on. We'll see how it does after a few days in the daily commute.

Will I transfer it to my '92 when I get it on the road ? We'll have to see. Thank God it doesn't make the whistling noise they mentioned in the add !

Well, actual labor time about 45 minutes start to finish, including cutting threaded rod to make longer mounting studs (shoulda done that weeks ago ) but the whole ordeal started around Thanksgiving last year !!! Between crappy weather and workin' all kinds of OT it hasn't been high on my list of priorities but it got up around 70 today and I was doin' an oil change anyway so while the oil drained I ripped into it. If it had been a direct bolt on it might not have been such a hassle but I lost a few weeks waitin' to get it machined and then the weather turned cold and then........... you get the picture. For a direct bolt on application or a true TBI system where you're actually runnning the air/fuel mixture through it I'd say it would be worth it. For mine.............well it's done and it helped......some, but I think the time and $100 would be better spent on something else.

Afterthought: FYI, my Accord will roll over 199K sometime around Tuesday, maybe you'd see more improvement on a fresher motor. I dunno' "?"

No, my therapist says I'm much better now, but thanks for asking.

Seriously, I was pretty careful to get a good before and after comparison. Like I said there isn't a lot of difference but I did some before and after 5th gear uphill 45 MPH roll-ons and there is a detectable difference. But it wasn't a lot and I can't say it's $100 worth. My advice to anybody looking at one for their Honda is save your money for something else, like a K&N filter, a 1" hole saw and an extra air box bottom.

In theory, an added inch isn't going to make a whole lot of difference. I'd be skepitcal of any peak power gains, over maybe 1hp. However, I would probably say that it'd give you 3-4hp in the lower rpm range, which is VERY helpful even if it's not adding more to the overall engine power. I may machine a spacer one day at work if I get bored....how thick was the production unit? I'd go with a spacer at least 1.5" thick...

you can't REALLY feel 2-3hp, but in the lower rev ranges, it is possible you may be able to feel a little difference..

The spacer is right at an inch thick and the "spiral grooves" are larger ID than the throttle bore so I have to believe they have little or no influence on mine. From a dead stop I could feel a little improvement right off an idle because I always had a "flat spot" right there when I let the clutch out and had to rev it a little until I got it rolling and the flat spot is now gone, but that could just as easily be from resetting the throttle cable, I don't know. Other than that it actually felt like the car had lost a little until I did the uphill roll on, that showed me it gained just a hair, and I do mean a "hair". If anybody wants to doubt it feel free, I won't argue with you. It does "feel" like I gave some up at higher RPM but I have nothing to judge by so I won't say one way or the other. I'm just reporting what I saw. As far as making one ? I wouldn't bother, make yourself a CAI or a birdhouse, I think you'll get more out either.

Back in the day I got bored at work one night (actually several nights) and turned out some "Single Action" paraphenalia (if you know what I mean ) on the lathe from surgical grade stainless steel rod. Easy to clean and never lost the edge, cut right through stems and seeds if you were that lazy. Although on a couple I bored the bowl a little deep so only the very "crisp" or suicidal could do a whole one. I got a lot more out of those than I did this spacer. And no, there is no pharmaceutical influence on the findings. I gave that up years ago, the Statute of Limitations has expired a couple times over on any of those activities.

So where are the pictures? Glad you finally got it on there. YOu put it on your 93 right? I'd like to try it when I throw on my H22 TB.

Hey Hippie in back everyone.

I thought you might of feel off the wagon (and i wont mean a accord wagon) and forgot to say later to us. Well after 4 months you got it in.( better later then never ) Just wanted to ask if you have a picture on the templet you used to machine out the spacer or a picture on the spacer it self. I know you have to do some minor mods to the spacer you got ( where did you get it from again i forgot).oh yeah how is your co-workers toe( or foot) something feel on it right? I just got my arm crushed at work in between some 3,000 pound + containers at work but luckely no broken bones just really sore.

nice to see you back P.s how is the impala coming along

Hey, sorry guys, thought this was a dead thread, been chasin parts for the Impala again.

To answer the last 3 posts on this thread................

I put it on a '91, the wrecked Accord I am rebuilding is a '92.

Let my account lapse on the site I was using for pics, so no pics for now. If you REALLY want to see them and I can remember which PC and what HDD I put them on I could e-mail them to you but even as JPG's the files are huge. LMK.

It was a Helix Power Tower that I had to modify because it DID NOT fit my car like the application guide said it would. Didn't even come close. I had a very minor improvement on the low end that I could actually verify by doing an uphill "roll on" before and after. And I DO mean minor, I get the impression that I gave up a little on the top end but that is wholly sunjective and, as Nick M put it, may be psychological. My advice ? Spend the $100 bucks on something else. As I stated earlier I got a lot more improvement by buying an extra bottom for my airbox and taking a 1" hole saw to it. I already had the hole saw so for $10 at the junkyard and about 10 minutes labor I made a real improvement. Bottom line is that it wasn't worth the $100 or all the extra crap I went through to make it work.

On the other hand the $109 I spent on the P-Spec shifter last fall would be worth every penny if I was any good with a stick...................
At least now I can use my bad knees and failing reflexes as an excuse. Guys, gettin' old sucks!!!!!! Of course so does the alternative.
