Acually the M2A4 has a really interesting 3rd gear. This may allow you to stay in the power band longer at the end of the track...

Yea, the M2B4 1st 2nd 4th 5th with a M2A4 3rd gear might work out well for the track. How hard is it, or is it even possible, to just change one gear? Scott, I'll drive down to Tucson and give you a free shifter if you can do it for me

I can do it for you. The gears need to be changed in pairs, meaning the input shaft gear and the counter shaft gear. I have heard of people just changing one of the gears, the car will run, but the tranny will make noise.

Free shifter...Hell yeah! Just say when...

Like a whinning noise due to a mismatch with the angle (cut) of the gears.

Ah, well crap. Thats no good. Maybe I should just drive it down to you in Tucson so you can help me figure out whats going on with it. Still have a horrible hesitation and it is killing my 1/4 times. All I can manage now is 14.5@94mph.

I believe the Euro R trannies have "straighter cut" gears. This can cause whining as well. This is most likely the case with deceleration. I would not see it as a problem. The whinning of improper gears is much different.

I have heard of another "p" series tranny was asked about before, and I believe it is from a "Hong Kong" Market car.

The JDM has a good 5th gear ratio of 0.787.. ideal for hwy driving.
I don't know what they were thinking with a 0.870 for the H22a (US/CAN).

Why would they do that??

not too hijack the thread...but. I found a useful tool to calculate your gear ratios. (if you change your FD, or any other gears, this will give you a good idea of what rpm you be @ at x speed etc.)

http://www.reverendsgarage.net/index...5d663e55f7bfe1
I found this tool in the s2k forum...all credit goes to Schatten

Here is what I came up w/for my 97 SH w/the prodrive FD (which is a ratio of 4.7143.)

Total gearing in first gear: 15.4864755
Maximum speed in first gear: 32.7 mph

Total gearing in second gear:9.2211708
Maximum speed in second gear: 54.9 mph

Total gearing in third gear: 6.3360192
Maximum speed in third gear: 79.8 mph

Total gearing in fourth gear:4.8745862
Maximum speed in fourth gear: 103.8 mph

Total gearing in fifth gear:3.8280116
Maximum speed in fifth gear:132.2 mph

it gives you a nifty graph too!

looks very similar to 4th gen speeds, doesn't it?

here is the stock SH graph for comparison.

D, who is not very happy about paying $1200 to accelerate like a 4th gen

yes...it would be faster..

Is it worth $1200 Im not sure.. Go to the site I provided and it will produce a graph that will give you an idea of how much your acceleration will improve. (I can tell you your car will top out @ about 120)
