Anybody catch how exactly this will work? I'm reading that they count best times, yet I also read there is a "pro" driver who posts a run time that every one is trying to beat. I am confused. Does anybody know exactly what the goal of the event is (other than drive as fast as you can ). Thanks.

Finally they updated that website. I just signed up...looks cool. Too bad all the competition cars will be automatics though... Oh well maybe some of the other cars in the skills clinic will have manual transmissions...(fingers crossed)?

Hracer - "Does anybody know exactly what the goal of the event is (other than drive as fast as you can ). Thanks."

The goal is to be the fastest in your region so you can go to Leguna Seca. Then to be the fastest at Leguna Seca so you can win a brand new Mazda 6 and be the fastest driver overall. Hopefully the Mazda 6 I'll be winning will have a manual transmission...

Vracer111, who's been waiting for the site to be updated for a loooooooong time.

Sounds like the MTV Fast Enough. But yeah I have to see if my calendar is free for that weekend. I'm trying to guess what time of the day would be best to run an automatic Mazda6 with crud tires

Not sure if the tires will be crud...Falken is the tire sponser...so what if they are using Azenis Sports?....mmmm, that would make it nice I think.

Vracer111, I still don't understand the purpose of the "pro" drivers who are supposedly there to set benchmark times that the competitors are trying to beat. That's what I'm confused about. Had it been just best time wins, it would be just like any other autox.

ok i called the mazda number and they said they've been having probs all day with credit/debit cards. You have to call them and leave your ph# so they can call you back when the system is working.

for those of you who are too lazy to go to the site... the ph# is 877-311-5771

my take is that it is supposed to just be used as a benchmark. i dont think that has any factor in determining who 'wins' each event.

The "Pro" time looks to be about equaling the difference between event sites out - for example 25.001 seconds at the San Francisco event wouldn't mean the same thing at the Houston event. I think the "Pro" driver will be the determining factor for the 'wildcard' drivers...where the 5 National Wildcard winners will be selected from all 15 event sites. Kinda like a PAX factor thing...though it will be based on a "Pro" driver index for the course verses a car performance index. So my take on the situation is that the "Pro" driver is really the determining factor in choosing the 'wildcard' drivers from among all 15 sites.

I see, thanks. So as I understand it, if the pro driver sets a time of 25.0 at around 1 pm at site A and you manage to run a 25.5, you would still be "ahead" of another driver running a 23.9 at site B, but whose time is being "compared" to a pro driver's time of 22.0 in those conditions at that time at that site. And the first driver running the slower yet "better" time of 25.0 relative to the pro driver time, will be higher up on the "wildcard" scale than the second driver.

Ah whatever, it's still too complicated for me. We'll just see when it happens. Anyway it is, the faster you drive the better off you are. And that's all we need to know.

It's simple really - your job is to beat the 'pro' driver by as much as you can....
