I have a ITR tranny and just purchased the ATS LSD and the ATS 1, 3, 4, and 5th gears. I will be using the stock 4.4 final drive and want to know if anyone else is running this setup. Please no comments that the ATS final gear gets the same results.
I intend to use a 4.643 final drive with close ratio gears and an aftermarket LSD.
I also have a tranny with ITR gears, an ATS final drive and a Kaaz LSD.
I want to see how the two compare.
EDIT: Both trannies will be tested and used exclusively on a race track.

because the rpm is so damn high when u are driving on highway. other than that(or if you dont care), its all good. close ratio, min. rpm drop from 3th to 5th gear. i drove my friend's car for 3 weeks(everyday) which got the ats 1, 3, 4, 5 gear with 4.4FD. its just killing me on highway.

Sorry I should have stated that this is primarily a track car. Gas milage what is that? My daily driver is a '99 Tahoe. The 16 mph my Teg gets is quite generous compared to the 10 mph in the city my Tahoe gets

Looks like the first gear is longer with a higher top speed but, the rest look a bit shorter and their top speeds are lowered with 205/50 series tires as is the overall top speed. Depends on what is important to you.
Looks to me like it would pull stronger but, I don't know how much more you'd notice the difference between just the Final and your new gearset on the ITR tranny alone.
But, with your setup you will benefit more with that longer 1st. Do you plan to do the gears before the motor? Or will it all be done at the same time?
When will it be all complete? I want a ride after you break in that motor.

ATS 3-4-5 and stock 4.4FD gets a
from me. But as spoon_ek9 said, highway mileage is gonna suck --- sucks more than the 4.929FD alone.
Compare to 4.929FD + stock gear set, at 5th gear, the stock 4.40FD + ATS 3-4-5 losts over 10mph at the exact same rpm; losts over 25mph compare to totally stock gearing.
But if it's a track car, this ATS gear set is great. RPM climbs faster at 3-4-5, and RPM drops between shifts are smaller too.

Aww geez I thought you were gonna post a review.

I am excited to get my car finished. I am hoping by the last week in March, although the block should be back from machining by the end of the week. I am just waiting on my baffled oilpan and trying to decide if I want ITB's.
I will compensate the lower topspeed by just revving to 9500 rpms. My topspeed will be around 145mph. That should be plenty for any track around here.
I will definetly let you get a ride.... It should be an experience.

the short gears are awesome... highly recommend it
cruising at 120km/hr, engine is at 5000rpm (a stock type r engine)
for city driving, i recommend it because it allows you to get up to speed faster (and hence save gas, assuming u don't cruise at high rpm). there is usable power in every gear, whereas with stock gear ratio, it is easier for the engine to bog
if you need to do a lot of highway driving, then you'll want to consider if you can deal with the higher rpm. compared with using a 4.929FD, the crusing rpm won't be too different... and i prefer the gearset because it improves the driving feel significantly. imagine only dropping 1500rpm at redline shifts!
with regards to gas mileage, it isn't that detrimental, again, depending on how you drive. for city driving, i still get 450km per tank

to meWhich 1st gear did you get? The old one or the new one?

Stupid me I wasn't even thinking of going that high. Dilemma solved, guess it wasn't ever a dilemma really or a second thought.

.....I hate to say it, but a close friend of yasu's commented to me how he was disappointed because on their race car (www.a-t-s-usa.com), the lap times were the same from just using an itr tranny with the 4.9 and itr 4.4 final with 1,3,4,5 gearset... more $ for the gearset of course.
But I've been so interested in trying that setup for sooooo long. I take it you're running a 2L motor? I'm sure you'll love it either way.
Please post up a full review. I've got the 4.9 final in my itr tranny, and the ats lsd in my cable tranny (with the same ratios as itr). I may combine the two in another itr tranny, or go with the gearset like yourself.
I have often wondered what a 4.785 + ats gearset would be like too...
FWIW, erick's racing was using a 4.9 final and stock itr ratios for the 9 second record pass... I know it's dragging and all, but it's very interesting since he's making lots of power with displacement...

ATS 1, 3, 4, 5 gears? What about 2?
And btw - what is the top speed with that setup (with 4.4 FD and 4.929FD)? I guess I could go figure it out myself, but maybe someone has already checked.

I don't think it's necessary to change the 1st gear for the 3-4-5 gear set?? I thought the 1st gear is only for the ATS 4.9FD. If the stock 4.4FD was used, the 1st and 2nd gear can stay stock.
